1987 Mercedes-Benz R107 500SL for sale

Having purchased a 1969 Mercedes 280 SL. I decided that I really wanted to add a R 107 to my collection. and of course. only a 500 SL would do. I looked at many cars. most of which seemed to have had 10 owners and had done over 100. 00 miles. These cars are so well (over) engineered. that they cope with miles well. and do not show too many signs of wear if they have been maintained properly. However. I didn't want a car that was simply wearing its age and mileage well. or that had been restored or repaired well. I wanted the best SL that I could find. My quest for perfection led me to the car pictured here.

My SL has only had one previous owner for its entire life. and has led a cherished and pampered existence. The car has a full main Mercedes Benz dealer service history until 2002. at which point the lady owner stopped driving it and stored it in her garage.

The owner of Outwood Cars. who lived next door to and whose wife had always admired the car. finally got the opportunity to purchase the car in 2013 and spent some £7. 00 (all carefully documented) on recommissioning the car.

The hardtop has been kept on the car for its entire life. so the soft top is original and like brand new. I had the car inspected before I bought it. and the engineer said he had simply never seen a car like it. Underneath. the car looks like it could be 2 or 3 years old. There is no evidence of any rust. rot or any repairs to the car whatsoever.

Normally. an R 107 of this age would have had repairs done. and it would be important to check that what has been repaired has been done to a suitable standard.

The only fault he could find with the car was a small transmission fluid drip from a rubber connector below the radiator. which was immediately replaced.

The car is a beautifully specified car. in Astral Silver with Navy Leather interior and air-conditioning. rear seats. and a new Alpine CD/MP 3 player with Bluetooth.

The question that I haven't answered yet. is why I am selling it. The 500 SL is part of a collection that (my wife says) has got too big. and I need to downsize my collection to a more manageable number.
