Motoe Xotica Classic Cars presents this 1936 Auburn replica that combines the elegance of the late ‘30 s and some of today's modern amenities.

Auburn Speedsters were designed to be “show stoppers. ” They became instant successes in the summer of 1934. The exquisite vehicle captured the media's attention and the imagination of history. Auburns were built largely by hand. By 1937. though. production of Auburns had ceased. Auburn Speedsters were known for their top speeds of 100 mph.

California Custom Coach (CCC) was started by Cecil Gold and Ray Oja from Burbank. Calif. . in 1976. CCC Inc. was located in Pasadena. Calif. The build tags found on their Auburns state that CCC Inc. is a subsidiary of the Auburn Speedster Company. CCC offered the Auburn 876 Speedsters and the 876 Phaeton. a four place Boattail Auburn. The Auburn bodies were fiberglass. The recommended chassis was that of a full size Ford. The chassis had to be lengthened to accommodate the 127-inch Auburn wheelbase.

According to an article in the Dec. 22. 1978 issue of Auto Week. CCC stopped offering kits of the 876 in January of 1979. Only Factory built cars would be available. They would be priced at $37. 00 for the Speedster and $42. 00 for the Phaeton Speedster. CCC was operating out of a restored Packard dealership located on 1285 E. Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena. By that time. it was estimated that CCC had already sold more than 250 Auburns.

Standard equipment for these replica includes automatic transmission. power steering. power disc brakes. full instrumentation. heater and defroster. white wall tires. spare tire and chrome wire wheels.

This particular 876 replica has the optional white wall radial tires and chrome wire wheels and stereo system. With these modern luxuries on top of a luxury feel from 1936. this Auburn will make a great addition to any car collection.

A plaque that says this car reached 100. 1 mph before shipment helps keep the feel of this true speedster alive. The black leather seats show very well along with the dashboard. The VDO gauges measure speed. water temperature. oil pressure. fuel. amps and RPM. A VDO analog clock is also in the dash to help tie the motif of modern and classic together. The Jensen stereo is part of the factory options of a stereo system.

The exterior is a two-tone yellow body with black over the wheels. Two-tone paint was an option for this replica Auburn. The paint shows wonderfully and will stand out in any showroom or collection. The twin Dietz 9-82 spotlights add another piece of ‘30 s panache to this modern replica and will shine some light on a fancy night on the town. The chrome wire wheels on this Speedster were an option for the kit and proudly spin as this vehicle cruises on the open road.
Under the hood. a Ford 429 cu in V 8 engine mated to an automatic transmission powers this Speedster. Transmissions on original Auburn 851's were a three-speed manual with synchromesh. but this automatic transmission is a modern luxury for a ‘30 s piece.
