1961 VW Split Screen 11 Window Microbus – LHD – Californian Import.

We are very proud to offer one of the finest busses we have ever had the pleasure of owning. This 1961 Microbus has been meticulously restored to near a beautiful standard throughout. They really do not get any better than this.

Supplied new to Charleston. South Carolina. USA and later registered in California where the bus has spent the vast majority of its life. We have the Californian state of entitlement certificate that goes with the bus. The bus has been fully restored and then shipped to the UK in March 2014. The restoration has been completed meticulously to as close to its original specification as possible.

Matching chassis numbers. Original Chassis plate and M code plate are located in the correct positions and tie up perfectly with the busses history. Planned production date of March 24th 1961 with M-Code 374 (North American equipment. Includes 6 popouts). All 6 original popout windows are still on the bus and in fine working order.

Engine has been upgraded to a rebuilt 1600 Single Port running on all original gearbox and suspension setup. The bus sits at stock height and is mechanically very original having not been molested and hacked about with like many others. Original wide 5 Steel wheels with white wall tyres and polished stainless steel small logo hub caps.

The bus has been professionally re sprayed in Mango / Pearl Green. The paintwork is to a very good standard. Very straight down the sides and roof with no blemishes or marks. Coming from a hot climate the bus has lived an easy life and is 100% rust free with all of its good quality German steel in the same condition and thickness that it would have been when it left the factory in 1961.

Having spoken highly of the busses exterior I must now compliment the interior as it is probably the best attribute of this bus. One of the best headlinings I have ever seen on any vehicle it has been trimmed in beige cloth and sits flush along the inner roof following the curvature perfectly. Finished neatly and correctly to the waistline in matching material resplendent with brand new door cards trimmed in original walnut and grey vinyl finished off with correct metal trim inserts.  A very theatrical presence and feel inside this bus indeed!

Original Microbus seats fully restored. Re-foamed and re-covered in matching walnut vinyl with grey piping. If you would prefer a camping interior as opposed to the Microbus we can fit an interior of your choice to the bus instead. The bus has just been registered in the UK this month and comes fully serviced with 12 months MOT and has the added benefit of being road tax fee exempt.
