For Sale. My beloved 911. In my opinion the colour options of Guards Red with cream leather seats piped in red with cream carpets makes this 911 the best one to have. In addition to this. the 964 was the first Porsche that feels like a modern car to drive and not a rattly classic. Please ignore the dates on the photos. I didn't have the camera set up properly when I took the photos recently.
I have owned this car for over 10 years and being a fussy engineer. it took me a while to find the standard of car that I was looking for. She was my daily drive for the first 3 or 4 years until I got a company car and since then she has only been used sparingly. I have regrettably come to the conclusion that she would be better off with someone who will fully appreciate her.
She is probably the most dependable and honest old Porsche that you could wish to find and is pretty much as she left the factory. with the exception of a few minor issues that I mention below. For anyone who doesn't already know. the 964 is a brilliant car. She is equally at home bimbling along in 5th gear at 30 MPH as she is howling down the autobahn. Also. the fully galvanised body shell means that body corrosion will never be an issue.
Despite being an Engineer in the Aerospace industry. I have always had all but the most simple of service tasks done at a local independent Porsche specialist who has always commented on the overall good standard of this car on collection. When buying a car such as this. you are always a bit nervous about the possibility of potentially large bills to come. Being a private sale. I can't offer any warranty. but if you want an independent opinion from someone who knows her best. I will give you the contact details of the Independent specialist as he says he will be happy to give an honest opinion.
She had a 12. 00 mile service. Roll bar links replaced and belts changed (very important on an air cooled car) on 30/10/2012 and has done approx 50 miles since. so she's ready for the summer.
She comes with her original service book with a good service history and covered 99. 00 miles. She is in what I call good overall condition. but with scope for further improvement. The body and paintwork is good. There is no evidence of any body work having been done on the car - which is important with a galvanised shell. The paintwork is good. with the exception of the bonnet and the matt black paint on the roof bar which is peeling on the edges where it meets the Targa roof panel. The bonnet looks to have been repainted at some point and has some micro blistering showing along with a few patches of paint imperfections. If I were buying the car I would probably want to get the bonnet and roof bar repainted at some point.
The interior is also good. but would benefit from a bit of a clean up. The main issues are that the leather at the very front RH corner of the passenger seat has gone a bit hard and the interior roof lining looks OK. but is a bit saggy. These are non issues as far as I'm concerned. but I don't want anyone who can't very to be disappointed. The outside the Targa top is a good fit and doesn't leak. For some reason. some of the electric seat switches don't seem to work. This doesn't seem to interfere with normal life so I've never bothered to look into this and has always been the case since I've owned the car.
The wheels are original and in good condition. She has Avon tyres with good tread all around. but according to the MOT tester the front tyres are beginning to perrish. so you might want to budget for a set of fronts soon. I haven't done this myself as the new owner might want to fit fancy wheels! Also. the tyres were prone to loosing pressure when standing - probably due to a less than perfect seal with the wheel flange. A squirt of tyre sealer in each tyre a couple of years ago seems to have stopped the tyres deflating over time.
Mechanically the car is excellent with no known major issues. She drives beautifully apart from a slight judder from the brakes according to the tester - although I can't sat I noticed this. She also seems to be prone to stalling until warm. This never used to be a problem and is probably just due to lack of use and she idles perfectly after a couple of minutes. The catalytic converter has been removed and replaced with a straight tube. To me this is a benefit as it's just another cost and isn't required for an MOT for a car of this age.
I will add a copy of the last advisories on the service report to this listing as soon as I can. but the list of minor items are as follows;
Fan belt warning switch not working - not an issue with new belts but needs sorting one dayBrake judder - probably a slightly warn front discSteering wheel out of alignment - only an issue if you are a perfectionist. but easily fixedFront tyres perrishing - worth getting replaced before too longFront caliper plates need greasing -  will be done as a matter of course on next pad change - unless you are keen to get your hands dirty before that. Spoiler wall split - you rarely see one that isn't on a car this ageSeat switches inoperative - never been a problem to me. but will try and fix prior to auction close. Spare wheel compressor missing - Think this inflates the space saver spare if required - Can be purchased from Halfords / Argos for £20. 00Oil leaks from PAS housing. timing box covers and gear selector shaft. - PAS and cam covers now done. Selector shaft not an issue in my opinion. O/S/F Back plate corroded. - Not an issue to me on a 23yr old car - easily replaced if you a perfectionist. Fuel cap seal. - Don't think this is an issue unless you plan to drive upside down - or leave the car for weeks in a very hot climate. Number plates delaminating - Never been a problem at MOT - Anything that gives speed cameras a problem is a bonus as far as I'm concerned.
In summary. she is a good honest car non messed with Porsche with the benefit of being a cast iron intvestment which is fabulous to drive and own. or just look at. I have been as honest as I can with the description to the point of perhaps putting people off. but please bear in mind that she is now 23yrs old and not perfect. So don't buy it and then expect to haggle when you get here. She is available for viewing near Nottingham in the evenings and at the weekend. The auction will run it's course and she will be sold to the highest bidder. If you want to bid. but have less than 10 positive feedbacks. please contact me prior to bidding. Sorry. no oversees bidders. If you win the auction. I will need a deposit of £100 paying via paypal and the full balance in my account within 14 days of the auction closing. Needless to say. I will not allow the car out of my sight without the cleared funds in my account. so don't turn up with a pile of cash expecting to take the car away when the banks are shut!
Thank you for looking. If you are looking for a straight 911 with a good history don't let this one get away. Happy bidding. Tim
