1970 Oldsmobile 442 W 30 4 spd Convertible with W 27 Alum Rear

VIN 344670 M 217476

Find of the century

The only W 30 4 spd Convertible that is documented with it's original paperwork to have come from the factory with a W 27 Aluminum Rear end.

This is an original unrestored car. This W 30 4 spd convertible is Documented with it's Original Window Sticker. It came from the factory as follows:

Triple Black with white stripes . 21 4 spd

W 27 Aluminum Rear end with 3. 91 Posi.

Anyone unfamiliar with the W 27 Aluminum rear end option may ask why this is such an important option. GM used many of the same drive line parts in all of their brands. For example. the M 21 trans could have been had in any GM muscle car. The rear ends were not so different in all of the GM muscle cars of this era. The most desirable GM cars had a special piece or pieces of aluminum mounted from the factory. Examples would be:

ZL 1 camaro with its aluminum block (add $500 k plus)

L 89 aluminum heads (add $$$$$)

Cars with these factory options.

stand in a field of their own way above their cast iron brothers.

The W 27 full Aluminum Diff is one of these strange and expensive options. The only way to get a factory W 27 rear from the factory was to order it on a

W 30. It was not available on any other car ever.

This car has never been advertised for sale. 44 k original miles.

The paint is original with some flaws and blends. I hope that no one decides to restore this car. It is a time capsule and looks fantastic with its patina. The interior is in excellent condition. No rips or cracks in the seats. dash. console. etc. The carpet has a small spot (about 2”)worn through near the

pedals.

The body is rust free as well as the floors. frame. trunk. tc.

The engine spun a bearing early in life. the block is date coded and rebuilt to stock specs. This car runs and drives excellent. The top is perfect the glass is excellent. Some chrome shows age but is still presentable. The original wheels have never been replaced with aftermarket mags.

There were only 96 W 30 4 spd convertibles produced in 1970. There are less than 10 documented cars known to exist. The only way to know if a 442 is truly a W 30 is to have one of the following:

1.

Original dealer paperwork

2.

IBM card stamped with W 30 (only on later built cars)

3.

GM of Canada documentation

The only way to know if the W 30 is a real 4 spd car is to have the original dealer paper work (window sticker. order sheet. etc)

or GM of Canada docs showing the options on the car.

When buying a restored car. you don't know how much metal was replaced during the restoration. This car is still wearing it's original paint which shows that no panels have been changed. It has it's original Window Sticker which proves that it is a real Triple Black 4 spd W 30 convertible with a W 27 Rear End.

This could be your only chance to own a documented W 30 4 spd Convert with a W 27 Rear end. The W 27 Rear is a full Aluminum differential housing that was only available on W 30 s. Not to be confused with the Aluminum rear end cover that most people bolt on to a steel rear end. The cost to purchase a W 27 rear alone is approximately $20 k if you can find one. The fact that the car was born with the W 27 is priceless.

In the past year some of the best examples of W 30 4 spd convertibles have sold in the $350 k plus range. This is still less than Ram air IV Judge convertibles that have sold for up to $700 k for the best example. The best Documented LS 6 Chevelle convertibles have also been selling in the $400-500 k range.

The reason that I mention these other brand cars is to note the fact that the W 30 s have room to climb in value. These other cars have nothing over a W 30 in looks or performance. This W 30 has 380 HP and 500 foot LBS of Torque.

I will consider even trades for a 71 Hemi Cuda or a 71 440-6 Cuda convertible.

I will also consider taking other interesting cars in on trade. If you would like to speak with me. please message me for my phone number by clicking the “ask seller a question” tab.

This car is a nice driver in fantastic original condition. You will not be disappointed with this car.
