Description
1970 Chevelle
SS 454 cubic inch/360 horsepower LS 5 4 speed M 22 rockcrusher. tach and gauge package. functional cowl
induction hood. Cortez Silver with Black Bucket Seat interior and it's
documented with is what are believed to be. but not verified. the original Build Sheet. Protecto-Plate and Window Sticker.
It's hard to believe someone actually ordered this car back in 1970 this
exact way.
No it wasn't green with gold interior this is how it came.
the only exception is it came with a black vinyl top and I just couldn't do
that to a beautiful car like this.
I purchased the car in a state where
your neighbors laugh at you when you bring it home it was that ugly.
Nothing but blood. sweat. tears and joy followed.
As you can tell by
the pictures I restored the car to be better than factory.
I'll
be as brief as possible but the extent of the restoration is nothing that can
be summed up in a paragraph.
The frame metal
suspension components were sandblasted and then detailed individually.
The suspension was rebuilt. the disc brakes
restored. new brake lines. the original SS wheels were sandblasted and
detailed along with new center caps and trim rings. new Wide Oval original
style tires. new fuel lines. new brakes. new body bushing. new radiator
bushing. new aluminized exhaust. new fuel tank and sending unit. new shocks
and of course all new hardware.
The body was
stripped and the rust at the lower rear quarters
was repaired.
It then spent several months in a body shop and
painted.
The paint was not what I wanted so the car was media blasted
stripped and sent to another shop where the fantastic paint job that this car
is worthy of was completed.
The floor pans were so nice that I decided
to go the extra mile and have the car removed off of the frame and have the
floors and trunk painted to give it that true show look they look fantastic!
Next all new badging and wheel well moldings were installed. new door
handles. mirror. the windshield stainless was polished and straightened. and
both front and rear windshields were replaced.
The original matching
numbers motor was completely rebuilt. the numbers matching M 22 was gone
through as well as new shifter and linkage. clutch. pressure plate and
throwout bearing. the brake booster was re-annodized. new valve covers. new
heater core. detailed firewall with all new components. detailed inner fender
wells. lots of attention to detail under the hood with correct neutral hood
latch assembly. steering column shaft and hood hinge
springs. etc. .
It runs and shifts like a brand new
car!
The interior
was not overlooked either. all the gauges were restored and clock converted
to a quartz movement so accurate time is kept. the dash housing was pulled
and detailed. dash pad reconditioned. seat belts redyed. new seat covers
front and rear. new door panels front and rear. new scuff plates. new window
cranks. new door lock pulls. new headliner. new dome light assembly. steering
wheel and shroud restored. new carpeting. new roof rail weatherstripping.
door weather stripping. U jambs. trunk gasket. hood to cowl. bucket seat head
rest locks. bucket seat releases. console restored as well as all new wiring
throughout the car so everything works as it should.
I know I have
overlooked many things I had done that were not even mentioned it's hard to
recall all the details with the hundreds and maybe even thousands of hours of
labor involved.
This car also comes with a factory installed 4 speaker AM/FM Stereo radio! Unbelievable but nearly half the cost of the entire SS package! $239. 10 for the radio versus $503. 45 for the SS package!
That's how rare this radio was back in 1970.
It is number
matching motor. trans and the rear has similar date codes so I assume it's
original but I could not find a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence on the transmission or rear end.
Any inspections
are welcome and encouraged prior to auction ending.
A $500. 00 non-refundable deposit is due with 48 hours of auction ending the balance is due
in 7 days of auction ending or upon pickup whichever comes
first.
Sold as is with no guarantees or warranties. but this gem of a Chevelle SS really doesn't need either.
There is currently
a buy it now if you want to make an offer and it's fair I will seriously
consider it and you can purchase it that way.
Best of luck!
