*RIGHT-HAND DRIVE & DUE TO BE TAX EXEMPT FROM APRIL '14*

Cool retro 8-seater people carrier. Possible camper conversion or wedding car.

Imported from South Africa Autumn '11. Bought from importer Nov '11. I originally planned to convert the van to a camper myself but to be honest I have neither the skills or the time! I'm now running a T4 Multivan which is more practical (e. g. for winter driving) & I don't need 2 vans! I've probably only done 2000 miles in the "Volksiebus" since purchase. As for mileage. I have no idea. The speedo is in km and reads 76K but I am pretty sure it will have been round the clock.

Bodywork is in very good overall condition (especially the chassis) for what is after all a 41-year old van. Garaged since I bought it. There is no major rust. However. the passenger side cab step is very tatty and could use a minor weld. Also some slight bubbling under the paint on both nearside wheel arches and the bottom of the passenger cab door. 1 key fits all locks but the cab door locks are very stiff and the tailgate lock is broken (new lock included in sale).

Paintwork is also good. Originally a mid-yellow but resprayed in South Africa (I would guess within the last 5 years) to its current hue.

Engine - a strong 2 litre unit which the importer told me was a reconditioned early T25 engine (the van originally had an 1800cc engine). The van is surprisingly fast. I had a new Weber 32/36 single carburettor professionally fitted in April '12.

Interior is OK. The rear seats are original but the importer told me that the front seats are from a Beetle. They are covered in canvas material which doesn't look great to me. I fitted "Z-hinges" to the rearmost seat so that it pulls out into a bed. However. I'm not sure it's very practical/comfortable as a bed - I just wanted to keep the original seat in place. Retro curtains are included.

Some negatives:

Cab electrics - some are non-standard (fitted in Southe Africa). e. g. indicator switch. horn. ignition. Could be reconnected though. e. g. the original ingnition barrel is still in place.

Gear change - is vague! But then they usually are on T2 vans. When I first bought the van. changing gear was an act of faith. Now much improved following work to the linkage last year. 2nd down to third is still difficult though.

Heating - never great on a T2 van (a warm "breath" is the best you can expect). However. this is disconnected completely (in South Africa). I have all the parts to reconnect which I will include in the sale and probably cost me £300. I also have some other parts. e. g. seals which I will throw in. Also a waterproof & breathable cover which I put on in the garage over the winter.

Starting - "moody". It always has started for me and again is better after I had someone look at the starter motor last year.

OK - on to the money. I'm asking £8K which I think is a fair price (I bought the van in 2011 for £8. 00). Please no silly offers by email or offers to part-ex - I'm trying to reduce the number of vehicles I have! You really need to view before making an offer. However. I am happy to answer any Qs which you might have by email or over the phone.

Payment by bank transfer (preferred) or cash on collection.

Viewings are weekends only as I am out at work through the week.
