Launched at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. the Jaguar E-Type was
nothing short of a revelation. With its heady blend of supercar
performance. breathtaking styling and low price tag. the newcomer
left rivals reeling and customers clamouring. Early sportscar
racing success at the hands of Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori
amongst others helped cement its reputation. Built as a monocoque
with a front sub-frame to cradle the engine. the model's
combination of all-round independent suspension. rack and pinion
steering and four-wheel disc brakes gave it excellent road holding
and handling capabilities. Fed by triple SU HD 8 carburettors and
topped with a 'straight port' DOHC cylinder head. its indomitable
3781 cc straight-six engine was quoted as developing some 265 bhp and
260 lbft of torque. Allied to a four-speed Moss gearbox. it
reputedly enabled the E-type to sprint from 0-60 mph in 6. 9 seconds
and onto 150 mph. Achingly beautiful yet viciously quick. the E-type
remains for many the ultimate production Jaguar.

This matching-numbers Jaguar represents an extremely well
cared-for and sound example of the marque. Originally a UK
delivered car. it then left Sussex for sunnier climes in Western
Australia. Repatriated in 1999 back to the UK. it was then sold to
the vendor. being just the fourth owner from new. In fact the
current owner knew the previous vendor and has thus known the car
for over 30 years. In 2000. he commissioned a full nut and bolt. br/>bare-metal restoration by John Salisbury of Cold Norton. Wavehouse
undertook the re-trim including a mohair hood. More recently. Clark
& Carter. arguably the most meticulous restoration specialist
in the world. rebuilt the carburation system giving more power and
a far better 'breathing' experience. Highly experienced Jaguar
specialist. Alan Collins of Maldon. Essex. has looked after
servicing during its time back in the UK. She sits on new Pirelli
P 4000's all round (including spare) with competition steel wire
wheels. A number of sympathetic upgrades have taken place including
the braking system. Kenlowe fan. stainless steel exhaust and
fast-road steel manifold. Over the last fourteen years. this
stunning British sports car has been used for exactly the purpose
for which it was intended. That is. husband and wife touring
continental Europe and taking in France. Italy and Spain. Never
missing a beat. this hugely accomplished E-Type not only presents
beautifully but is also mechanically astute. coming as it does. br/>with a history file. full year's road tax and Mo T test
certificate.
