1951 Standard Vanguard Historic Race Car for sale

An opportunity to own a unique historic race car. A 1951 Standard Vanguard built to competed in the HRDC "Touring Greats" series and also constructed to Goodwood regulations where it competed in 2010 piloted by the owner and celebrity driver Mr Brian Redman (his signature remains on the roof) The car is powered by a modified Triumph TR 4 a engine with gas flowed head. competition cam. forged 89 mm pistons with race prepped and balanced con rods and crank. electronic ignition. twin SU carbs. lightened steel flywheel and a Tony Law exhaust. Power is delivered through a close ratio TR 4 non overdrive gearbox to a limited slip diff. The suspension has been lowered with stiffer front springs. adjustable shockers all round. a front anti roll bar and rear panhard rod. The car also has a foam filled alloy fuel tank fitted in the boot with a Facet pump and cooling is by an alloy radiator. The body and chassis are in superb condition with laminated front screen. polycarbonate side screens and original rear screen plus a six point roll cage is fitted also fitted is a plumbed in fire extinguisher system. The brakes have been uprated with solid front discs and twin pot callipers as per regulations allow plus uprated rear drums and shoes. This vehicle was built for reliability and retains a 100% finish rate but could be made a lot faster with further development. The car comes with a large history file plus a large spares package. Photos 9 & 10 show the car on a Standard Vanguard car transporter that is also being listed (see my other listings) but is not part of this auction. Photos 11 & 12 show the vehicle at the 2010 Goodwood Revival meeting. Being unique the car is welcomed into the best historic meetings and is being sold with no reserve at a starting price considerably less than it's build cost. This car is on the button and ready to go racing plus it is also MOT and Tax exempt and fully road legal so makes a fun road car often surprising other road users.
