A former concours winner. with a competition history. this 1959 Morgan 4/4 had fallen on hard times before I acquired it as a "dad & son" project. At first glance the 4/4 appeared to be a sound example of the marque. However. what started out as a fairly straight forward mechanical rebuild took a hard left turn when it was discovered that the body tub was beyond economical repair. Rather than part the car out. the decision was made to rebuild it as an all-around sports car; docile enough to be a daily driver. yet suitable for rallies. touring. and autocross racing.

Mechanically the rare 1. 5 litre LawrenceTune engine with Weber carburetion has been completely rebuilt. as was the suspension. Additional up-grades included disc brakes to the front and a five-speed gearbox for relaxed highway cruising. The generator has been replaced by an alternator. and a reduction gear starter along with a Petronix ignition system have also been fitted. All old wiring has been replaced with new factory wiring looms.   The rolling chassis sits on wire wheels shod with 165x15 Vredestein tires. All parts not fitted to the car (gauges. wiring looms. etc. ) have been carefully packed and inventoried on the outside of the boxes.

The supple black leather seats are in excellent condition with no cracks or tears. The top and side curtains are also in very good shape. The chrome work varies from good (the grill) to excellent (the bumper).   The cowl is in excellent shape. the wings have been rebuilt. and a new bulkhead (fire wall) is installed. A new dash has also been made. along with a matching wooden shift knob. As previously stated the body tub is. in my opinion. not worth restoring. There are several companies here in the United States that can supply a new alloy tub for the car and I would suggest that buying a new tub will. in the long run. be a much better investment than trying to save the old one.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a Morgan project that has no hidden pit falls and that won't break the bank. That said. this isn't a fire sale. I'm selling because I'm in the process of buying another Morgan and need the garage space. I have receipts for more than $17. 00 just in parts and machining. so please. no silly low ball offers. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

The car has a clear Virginia title. and is sold as is. where is. with no warranty or guarantees of any kind. what so ever. The winning bidder will pay $1000 at the close of the auction. with the balance due within 5 days. I will store the car for free for up to 30 days while the new owner arranges shipping. The car is in Staunton. VA and may be inspected by appointment.
