1981 Russian Trabant for sale
Current customer rating:
The Trabant is a car that was produced by former East German auto maker VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau in Zwickau . Saxony . It was the most common vehicle in East Germany . and was also exported to countries both inside and outside the communist bloc . The main selling points were that it had room for four adults and luggage in a compact. light and durable shell it was fast (when introduced) and it was durable.
The car has less than stellar remembrances from owners but remains an automotive collectors item due to it's interesting construction and novelty.
It was also called the "Paper" car because it was made from epoxy resin and shredded paper products (fiberglass was unavailable).
This one runs and drives well but sounds very similar to an outboard motor! It is a two-stroke 600 CC two cylinder engine.
The car has less than 100 miles on it since being rebuilt a few years ago.
The vehicle has been kept indoors and is started from time to time.
The VIN number is correct and it is a 1981 vehicle - I had to trick the Ebay from by using 1980 to get it to accept the VIN.
The owner is Sam Thomas and he is now beginning to do some limited restoration work on it.
Sam is well known on the car show circuit with over 70 first place finished in AACA competitions around the country.
Due to failing health. the car is for sale.
Please feel free to ask questions and thanks for looking.
