Stunning Citroën GS 1220 Club Convertisseur for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.15) based on 639 votes
1973 Citroën GS 1220 Club Convertisseur. After many years of searching I found the rarest and to me the most desirable of the standard GS models. a pre 1976 car with the original "cyclops eye" dashboard. and with "Convertissseur" semi-automatic transmission. That this car was factory painted in Bleu Delta. a DS colour only offered from '74-'76 and with a Tabac targa interior made it only better still. To me the GS is one of the best designed 'ordinary' cars ever built and to find one of this particular model in such good state was no mean feat. If you have never driven a GS. any one of them makes you wonder what has actually improved in cars in the last 40 years. The flat four air-cooled boxer engine is incredibly quiet and sound more like a turbine than a traditional water cooled engine. The ride is as usual. magnificent and puts many current larger cars to shame. The Convertisseur gearbox is a masterful design and allows you to drive around town as a fully automatic car but with the flexibility of a manual when you need it. Sound familiar? It only took the rest of the world about 30 years to catch up.

The GS represents a time where profit was not the primary consideration and stands as a remarkable testament to the single-minded determination to advance automotive technology of it's once highly individualistic maker.

This car was rescued from the crusher in France having fallen foul of their Scrappage scheme. just as many classics and near classics were lost in the UK through similar schemes. Luckily for me a colleague from Lille spotted it and rescued it. only to discover that it was completely rust free (a miracle for virtually any GS) having been always garaged. and only covered 56900 miles from new. The interior is virtually as new with no fading. rips or tears. The paint was original and was in excellent state except for a number of dents on the doors. front wing and bootlid so I had it restored at great cost in 2011. It is now in show condition and absolutely worthy of careful preservation in light of the extremely low survival rate of these cars. Please call for more information or to arrange to see it. They don't come much better than this.
The GS is on French plates and will need to be registered in the UK.
