Current customer rating:
Hi. Spa MG Cheltenham here again having again over-purchased and in need of space. I have to sacrifice a couple of MGB's to facilitate 3 other fresh arrivals. SO:
FOR SALE:
MGB Roadster 1976 : The PRIZE at last November's Classic Car Show competition. apparently "restored" over the course of that 3 day show at the N. E. C. and. according to the latest issue of Practical Classics write-up fitted with a rebuilt engine. new chrome bumper conversion kit and many other new parts which would appear to include new brake components including front calipers and pads. brake hoses. rear springs and shock absorbers and a host of other new parts. hoses. suspension. seals. bolts. nuts etc. etc. Unfortunately I wasn't able to visit the show and there is no detailed spec. sheet available. however all new parts can be seen as the car has only covered approx. 250 miles since the show.
I purchased this vehicle from the competition prize winner and drove it from north of Leeds to Cheltenham (approx. 180 miles) with no real problems apart from the cabin heater not producing heat (the demisters work) and occassional loss of overdrive which subsequently turned into complete loss of overdrive. however I suspect this is an electrical connection problem and will attempt to rectify this prior to end of sale.
My own opinion (having traded as Spa MG and dealt in MG's for over 30 years) is that it is a presentable MGB with tidy unripped interior and carpets. mechanicals seeming to be in good order with overdrive and wire wheels. bodywork appearing to be solid (wings. sills. castles etc. ) but with further titivation and attention required at a future date but nothing unexpected for a 38 year old classic car. The car drives straight with no apparent steering. braking or suspension issues and has the capability to keep up with modern motorway traffic. as will be appreciated however. with the engine internals apparently new I spent most of the journey at 50-60 mph and as a consequence achieved an unbelievable 37 mpg (approx. ) The temperature section of the dual gauge is broken. however there was no loss of coolant or any sign of overheating on the 180 mile trip. There is the tiniest of nicks in the hood below the zip-out rear window and a small leak from the diff.
The car has M. o. T. until August 2014 and road tax until the end of this month (January) so. if you want to test drive or drive it away contact me before then. see below.
MGB GT 1977: This car was subjected to a complete strip down. restoration. respray and rebuild about 16 years ago (photographic history of this process comes within file on the car) it has covered approx. 30 k miles since. The restoration included the fitment of a rebuilt engine with fast road cam and lightly polished head. lowering to chrome bumper height. a chrome bumper conversion. new interior. webasto sunroof. upgraded brakes etc. Sadly the car was left to stand for several years and is now in need of work welding and paintwork to bring it back to roadworthy condition however not complete restoration.
This car will need to be trailered away as obviously it has no mot or tax
SUMMARY: Package of two MGB's with possibilities to swap engines. parts or whatever for the MG enthusiast with the probability of good investment return on either or both vehicles.
Any questions or further photos of specific areas please phone me 2. Please also note that when I listed these vehicles there was a glitch with the system which meant I couldn't choose the "make offer" option. I AM open to an offer on both or either of these vehicles and of course you are welcome to inspect before purchase. I can also throw in approx. £350 of new and used parts if the asking price is met. this will include a good used webasto sunroof. some new panels and brake parts for the GT and a used but good condition working dual gauge for the Roadster.
