1971 Mk1 Triumph Stag white Rover3.5 engine with very rare red interior

Here is a very good Triumph Stag Mk1 white with a rare red interior. ax exempt fitted with the more reliable Rover SD1 3. 5 V8 engine complete with good hardtop & softop. Plus an excellent transferable number plate (BOF 77K)

Engine & Transmission

The Rover 3. 5 V8 engine is in great shape pulls nicely. plenty of power. starts first time everytime (even if it has been left for weeks) no unwanted noises. uses no oil or water. Plus it has had a new battery and alternator within the last 12 months.

The BW35 automatic gearbox works exactly as it should with very smooth changes. and no oil used.

Bodywork

General bodywork is good. but on closer inspection there are bits that can be improved. very minor surface rust/ slight bubbles (very minor) on a couple of wheel arches (photos avaliable) plus there has been a few filler repairs (mainly on the doors) years ago. but still looks fine. other than that I would say that it has over 95% solid metal (remember this car is 43 years old this year!) there is also what appears to be a number of stone chips (maybe about 15) on the boot lid (that have been painted in. so you only really see them up close) it has also had a boot rack at some point in the past (may explain the chips) and there are chrome nuts and bolts in the holes that were there.

Bonnet is excellent (there are 2 very well done bulges in the bonnet where the carburettors are higher. not a big power bulge like most with this engine)

The chromework is generally in very good condition with just the odd pit & tarnish.

It also comes with a hardtop. with working heated rear window! (not excellent condition but very solid and does it's job) To make this a great all year round car.

Softtop is also in excellent condition and waterproof (there is a small rip in the back window plastic. about the size of a finger

Underside

The underside and chassis it in excellent condition very solid with just one bit of welding (front end of chassis rail. where it has been jacked up on for the last 43 years) that I can see. also I can't see any that will need doing any time soon. the floors including boot are also in excellent condition. All 4 of the inner wheel arches are also in excellent condition and are painted in white (as original)

The underside and the wheel arches at some point have been undersealed then painted with plenty of red oxide primer and then waxoiled (and it has done a great job of preserving the underside. )

Interior

Again the interior of this car is in very good condition. The red interior is very. very rare on these Stags (I beleive they made about 200 of them from the factory in red)  but it looks superb with the white bodywork! (see the photos) The carpets are original and are in very good general condition (with just a little fading by the center consol).

The seats again are in good general condition with just 1 or 2 very small splits on the edges (but still excellent for 43 years old)

The dashbord wood in in superb original condition (apart from a couple of cracks on the consol by the gear selector) All the guages including the clock and lights work as they should (sometimes the rev counter sticks slightly) and the glovebox still locks with the original bootlock key. It is also fitted with a good JVC Radio/CD player (that plays mp3 files). with a electric ariel. with 1 speaker in dash and 2 speakers in the cubby holes in the back (can be removed without any damage to the panels. to put back to original. if wanted)

Both electric windows work fine plus it ts fitted with remote locking. with 2 fobs

General

Only thing that I know that it needs doing is it will need a pair of rear tyres (due to cracking)

So there you have it. if you are looking for a generally good Stag. with excellent machanics. solid underside a rare interior that makes it stand out from the rest. Tax exempt. MOT'ed but don't expect a concorse car. then this could be the one for you. Just get your insurance and drive it away anywhere!

For the reserve price dont think silly money. think around condition 3 in the guides. for a car that I would put between condition 2 to 1 overall!
