First registered AXR 161 in February 1934 to Lt. General. Sir Frederick Browning. husband of the writer Dame Daphne Du Maurier and kept at their home in Par. Cornwall until his death in March 1965. Originally this English Model B was a two door Tudor Sedan with a 2Ltr. 4 cylinder engine. The car was acquired by me in 2009 with a view to modifying it to take part in the 2010 Peking/Paris rally. having taken part previously in 2007. However. it was felt that it was far too underpowered. so I made the decision to convert it into a Vintage style Hot Rod. The car was handed over to Read Performance. New Milton. Hampshire run by ex Rod Jolley (coach builders) Neil Read. The car was stripped to the chassis and reconstructed from the ground up with a rebuilt Ford 400 cubic inch V8. re-built gear box and narrowed Ford truck back axle. A dropped I beam front axle and new transverse springs from SoCal were installed along with a re-built Corvair steering box and a Pitman arm conversion was also added. At the same time Motor Wheel services produced 5 knock on single peg wire wheels fitted with Blockley tyres. The body which had been removed was stripped and fitted with a full tubular frame and cross members to provide complete rigidity. The roof was then removed and body work fabricated into the tourer style it is today. The chassis and body were painted Maserati racing red (maroon) and the interior. original seats were recovered in canvas from an old Thames barge sail. All lights and handles are original and the steering wheel is from a 1950's dirt track race car. The performance is needless to say stunning with a four barrelled carb. swept headers and modest but effective upgrades to the engine. There are numerous photos of the build and am happy to answer any questions.

Found you at last!! Terry here, the Lancia nut at the Le mans campsite this year. I have not forgotten that mad drive down the lanes. Going through my pics i found one of the Rod and searched the Reg. on Google and bingo! found the advert. email back, love to hear what you are up to.
Cannot believe the two of us were in Christchurch some weeks back and visited Poole, a filthy rainy day.

Terry
