1960 AUSTIN “MINI” SEVEN TARTEN RED – The Mini is a small economy car made by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors from 1959 until 2000. The original is considered a British icon of the 1960s. Its space-saving front-wheel drive layout – allowing 80 per cent of the area of the car's floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage – influenced a generation of car makers. [8] The vehicle is in some ways considered the British equivalent of its German contemporary the Volkswagen Beetle. which enjoyed similar popularity in North America. In 1999 the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century. behind the Ford Model T.

This particular matching number example (Reg-FSH874. nbsp;VIN -A-A27S754553. nbsp;Engine no -8AM-U-H/73519)  was first built on 7th September 1960 before being purchased and registered to the first owner (a worker from Berwick county council) on the 18th September 1960. The vehicle stayed with the first owner until 1965 before being sold on to the second owner who then had it until 1969 where it was then sold onto a teenage (Anne Edith Hart-Russell). She used the vehicle for everyday transport and to meet her “husband to be” Mr Hugh Keenan from 1969 onwards. Anne and Hugh then continued to use the vehicle between them for 25 years before it was taken off the road due to a water pump problem in 1994. As a result the vehicle was put into dry storage for 10 years before being discovered by the previous keeper who then proceeded to start the comprehensive restoration.

In 2004 the restoration began. No expense was spared nor stone left unturned throughout the 7 year project. The whole vehicle was taken down to a bare shell. new front wings were fitted along with door skins. the bonnet and front valance before being sparyed in the original factory “tartan red”.  It was reassembled with all new suspension components. brake pipes. brake hoses. wheel cylinders. brake shoes. handbrake cables. brake mast cylinder. clutch master cylinder. slave cylinder. release bearing. shock absorbers. knuckle joints. kingpins. engine mountings. drive shaft couplings. exhaust system. wiring harness. fuse box. dynamo. radiator. That twinned with an overhaul of the original engine block (piston rings. big end bearings. main bearings & thrusts. oil pump. timing chain. distributer. points. plugs. leads. condenser) Ensures that the vehicle is now of the highest calibre. The restoration was completed in June 2011 when it was put back on the road and it has covered just 1100 miles since.

Complete with Heritage certificate. original owners manual and a valuation from the “British mini club”. This vehicle is to be seen as a worth investment and a joy to drive on a dry summers day.

Sensibly priced at £8995
