1971 Pontiac Trans Am 2 Door Coupe for Sale in Tom City, FL 34991

Unique interior/exterior color combinations can make already desirable muscle cars stand out even more. This stylish Cameo White 1971 Pontiac Trans Am is no exception, as it features a Sandalwood interior, one of the less frequently buyer-chosen hues for this model. A four-speed transmission has replaced the born-with automatic, but the seller, who purchased the T/A in 2018, believes that the YE-code 455 H.O. engine is original to the car. It's also reported to have working factory A/C. “This three-owner Pontiac has never been outside of Florida, never been in an accident, and has been very well preserved,” according to the seller. “The second owner kept it in a climate-controlled garage, when not in use.”

POWERTRAIN

According to the seller, the 335-hp 455-cu.in . H.O. V-8 engine retains its original round-port heads, aluminum intake manifold, Quadrajet carburetor, and fully functioning Shaker hood scoop. He also reports that the engine has been “very well maintained, its performance is really strong, and it doesn't smoke or leak.” He says the Muncie four-speed manual transmission that was swapped into this F-body is the famed close-ratio, heavy-duty M 22 "rock crusher." It has an aftermarket Hurst shifter and T-handle. A Safe-T-Track differential came standard with the T/As, and a 3.08:1 rear gear ratio was specified for those equipped with the automatic transmission and A/C. However, the seller feels that the current rear gear ratio “must be pretty low (numerically high), because at 70 mph, the tach reads almost 4,000 rpm.”

EXTERIOR

The seller describes the Cameo White paint as “very good” and states that the underbody is clean and free of rust, the panel gaps are correct, the glass is “excellent,” and all the lights work.

INTERIOR

Though the seats in the Sandalwood Custom interior are in “good” condition, according to the seller, he does say that the front buckets need to have their foam replaced. The carpet and trim are described as being in good condition, the headliner as “tight and without tears,” and the gauges and aftermarket stereo with CD player and six-disc changer as “excellent.” And all the original equipment is functional, per the seller. The engine-turned instrument panel plate featuring an “RTS Radial Tuned Suspension” emblem is from a later Trans Am.

CHASSIS

The Rally II wheels, also from a later model T/A, are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires and are free of curb rash, per the seller. He rates the bushings, shocks, and tires as “good,” and says there's no play in the power-assisted steering system, and it doesn't leak. It does appear that red urethane bushings have been installed on the front anti-roll bar. “The T/A rides and handles great,” he says, and the power-assisted disc/drum brakes perform as they should, he adds.

DOCUMENTATION

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Florida title in his name. Additional paperwork includes PHS documentation. Race car looks, a torquey big-cube engine, and excellent handling are hallmarks of the 1971 Pontiac Trans Am, and this example also offers a shift-for-yourself experience, while seated in a distinctly colored interior in air-conditioned comfort.
