SELLER REMARKS

We're willing to bet even the most die-hard Mopar fan hasn't seen a 1963 Dodge Custom 880 hardtop before. Only 1275 were built that year. and today you simply don't run across them at every cruise-in and car show. From an era when industrial-strength performance took precedence over styling. this 880 is a refreshing change where beauty is more than skin deep.

The paint is showing some signs of age. but it doesn't make it any less striking. The styling is long and elegant. and there are styling elements on this car that you've probably never seen before. A white hardtop is sleek and certainly stylish. but check out the stamped details in the quarter panels. highlighted by the stainless trim running along the flanks. Given the rarity of the car. you know none of the panels are reproductions and it appears that the car has never had a full frame-off restoration. but the doors fit well. as does the massive deck lid. The car's most striking features are the bright taillight housings that include round lenses. and they show good detail that hasn't been erased with a clumsy re-chrome. Wrap-around bumpers might be showing their age. but they look right on the car. where no one part is any nicer than the rest. giving it a pleasing all-of-a-piece feel.

The handsome red interior was recently refinished in red fabric and vinyl. With room for six. this is a big car. and like many Mopars of the period the detailing of the driver's compartment is spectacular. The two-tone steering wheel frames a stunning four-tier instrument panel with a flying bridge of a speedometer up top. a row of pushbuttons for transmission control. and a strip of bright trim just below the auxiliary gauges. Adding to the space-age look is the dashboard-mounted rear-view mirror. and while the modern gauges under the dash are useful. they aren't nearly as cool as everything else around them. A factory AM radio still lives in the dash for entertainment and there's plenty of room in back for three friends on a long road trip. And don't worry about bringing all your gear. because the fully finished trunk. even with a matching Torque Thrust spare and what appears to be the original spare. has plenty of room.

The engine is a later 383 cubic inch big block V8. which isn't exactly period but provides the kind of effortless thrust that typified the big Chrysler V8s of the period. A chrome air cleaner hides an Edelbrock 650 CFM 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold. and there's a mild street cam in the center that helps build torque. Mopar valve covers and bright orange plug wires dress up the engine bay a bit and it's nice to see both power steering and power brakes in a cruiser this size. A 727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission swaps the gears and a recent dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers so it has that '60s sound to go with the look. New 205/70/15 front and 255/60/15 rear tires are wrapped around shiny Torque Thrust style wheels that give this big cruiser some real street presence.

So it's rare. smooth. powerful. and stylish. but we warned: everyone's going to want to know more about it. If you enjoy the story as much as the car. this is a great opportunity. Call today!
