1972 Maserati Ghibli 4. 9 SS
Delivered new in Burlingame. California this 4. 9 SS Ghibli Coupe is finished in stunning Marrone Colorado with Bianco leather. It is a proper 4. 9 SS and is fitted with the Borg Warner automatic transmission and Borani wire wheels.
Back in 1967 when the Ghibli was introduced it outsold its two biggest rivals. Ferrari's Daytona and Lamborghini's landmark Miura.  Styled by none other than Giorgetto Giugiaro in his time at Ghia. the Ghibli is without doubt one of his design masterpieces and remains as fresh today as it was back in the 1960's.  You don't have to be a Maserati fan to appreciate the stunning lines of this iconic Grand Tourer. As an investment the Ghibli is regarded as pretty much "blue chip" and has increased in price steadily over the last few years and has every reason to keep climbing. Ghiblis are readily available on the market. but when considering a car this one ticks all of right the boxes. It's a 4. 9SS and the last of the line. built in 1972. What sets it apart is its fantastic color. a rich and sumptuous metallic brown called Marone Colorado which highlights every curve and angle. Coupled with the chromed Borani wire wheels. the silhouette cuts a dash wherever it goes. This particular example has led a sheltered life in the Bay Area of Northern California. nbsp;having covered only 31. 00 miles and with just three owners from new. The current owner. a prominent Maserati aficionado and collector. purchased it from the second owner in 1999 at 22. 00 miles.  In his tenure the Ghibli has received a sound and sympathetic restoration (The original paint sticker is still inside the gas flap) including a bare metal repaint. much rechroming. reconditioning of the wheels and a thorough detailing of the engine bay and systems. so much so that this Maserati won second place in its class at the 2013 Concourso Italiano. It was also awarded the Strother Mac Minn design award at the Hillsborough concours.  It has had only three owners and been driven conservatively since new.
Bodywork The panel fit is excellent and the paint finish is lovely after having been applied over bare metal. There is no sign whatsoever of accident damage nor rust. all badges are intact and in excellent shape. The doors clunk shut as they should with no dropping on the hinges.
Engine BayThe Engine bay is immaculate. all lines and hoses have been replaced and even the correct screen printed details have been applied to the original air cleaner.
Engine and transThe engine is original and runs beautifully. It starts without drama. makes no smoke and displays excellent oil pressure. The gearbox shifts effortlessly.
InteriorInterior is really lovely and is mainly original. although the front seats have benefitted from new leather covers. Dashtop is mouse hair and in fine shape. both door panels. switch gear and interior fitments are in very nice shape. There is a split in the vinyl fabric on one wheel arch cover.
TrunkThe trunk opens to reveal a tool kit and original jack. along with the books and paperwork documenting mileage and the car's pedigree. The Owners Manual. Maserati parts book. the original jack and a set of tools are included in the proper style bag. Amongst the paperwork are. as stated above. various smog certificates. plus registrations going back to 1999. There is also a copy of the original "Avviso Di Spedizione". the delivery document supplied by the Maserati factory. It is dated 27/6/1972 and lists the options as: automatic gearbox. 8 track stereo. radio stereo. "Route Raggi" (which I believe is wire wheels) and a multi tone air horn. There is also a copy of the factory pre-delivery inspection report showing that all systems were go before it left the factory.
HistoryThe mileage is recorded as 31. 50 miles and is believed to be absolutely correct. The current owner bought the "SS" with just 22. 00 on the odometer in 1999 and there are continuous registrations back to this date documenting the mileage. There are also some smog certificates. one of which shows 20. 17 miles in 1996.
