FOR SALE
A rare RHD 23 window VW Type 2 Samba Deluxe Microbus in perfect condition.

EQUIPMENT
Split front screen. glare absorbing skylights. side double doors. rubber moulding on bumpers. chromium plated waistline. louver mouldings. dashboard electric clock. three clothes hooks. roof ventilator. heater/defroster. sliding sunroof. rear view mirror. padded sun visors. rear bench rail. three ashtrays. front screen wash. fuel gauge. dash lights. interior lights. armrests.

EXTERIOR
Astonishing in every respect and finished to show standard in original two-tone Deluxe only Sealing Wax Red with Beige-Grey roof. This 23 window Samba has all the correct external fitments with no visible damage or imperfections. The bumpers and rubber mouldings are unmarked and all the glass and pexiglas skylights are in wonderful order. The chromium enhancements are bright but three engine louver strips are slightly brighter than the remaining five. The underside matches the rest of the vehicle being spotlessly clean. The holy grail amongst VW collectors.

INTERIOR
True attention to detail will amaze onlookers as they marvel at the stunning interior of this Microbus. Specified as a seven passenger plan build with a middle seat for two. this ingenious configuration offers ample space and comfort with luggage catered for above the engine compartment. The interior was an intensive project granted to Custom Classic and Retro with the sole aim to recreate an interior as close as the one it left the Hanover factory in 1962. To achieve this. considerable expense was lavished on the bus even down to sourcing the almost impossible wool cloth headliner material and oatmeal square weave carpet in the load area. All controls. switches and gauges function but the electric clock is not connected. A flat 4 Banjo steering wheel has been fitted and all correct Deluxe interior trim such as the three polished aluminium coat hooks remain intact. Truly divine.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The horizontally opposed four cylinder rear mounted air cooled engine is from the early second generation Type 2 with the essential 1584cc displacement producing 47bhp for real world driving. reliability and parts availability. The synchronized four-speed transmission as operated by a single disc dry clutch is light with a positive engagement.

WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
Colour coded steel 4. 5” rims with VW original deep chrome hubcaps are immaculate. Vredestein 185 SR15 radial steel tyres have ample tread and the spare wheel is still housed correctly behind the front bench seat. Hydraulic foot brake operates on all four wheels exactly as Volkswagen intended but does fall short compared to modern standards.

HISTORY FILE
Chassis number 901041 is presented to its new owner with two critical forms of identification. the Volkswagen AutoMuseum Birth Certificate and a letter confirming the authenticity from The Split Screen Van Club. This 23 Window Samba was built on the 9th February 1962 as a Model 244 - Microbus Deluxe Cargo doors left. right hand drive and destined for Sweden. Sold in the small town of Borghholm. south east of Sweden in 1962. which explains the fact why it is RHD. as up until 1967 people drove on the left in Sweden. Taken to Germany in the late 1970's and imported to the UK in 2007 where it has been lovingly and painstakingly restored to its original condition as commissioned by its previous owner at considerable cost with invoices totalling tens of thousands as evidence.

An original set of handbooks contained within the basket weave effect A5 folder as supplied when new and a two sets of keys are included.

MOT May 2014. Tax Exempt. HPI Clear and Approved Used Car Check Certificate.
