Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.25) based on 114 votes
For sale is my 1991 Golf GTI 16v. I have owned this since October 2016, having bought the car as a rolling shell needing a lot of work. Full details are below. The car is an original oak green 16v car that I purchased from my friend prior to moving abroad in October 2016. He had bought it as a rolling shell in around 2008 from the previous owner, who has taken it off the road in 2003 when the engine failed. The car was first registered in the UK on the 29th April 1991. It was bought new in the Netherlands in March 1991 as a UK RHD car - I imagine that it was either purchased as a grey import due to the exchange rates at the time, or was purchased by army personnel when stationed abroad.Overall, I would describe the car as in very good condition, having lived in a garage since my ownership. I would not say it is to show standard, but a good usable standard that receives compliments wherever it goes. The car is obviously not standard, but has a fantastic specification that most people strive towards with their own cars. I have tried to describe the car as accurately as possible, however due to the age, and modifications on the car, it is highly recommended you view this car prior to purchase.A full breakdown of the current specification is as follows:HPI ClearMOT until July 2022FSH - I have the service book for the chassis up to 2002/3 which takes it to 120k miles. I also have the service book for the engine installed which was circa the same mileage. Clocks installed have the correct mileage for the chassis. The car has the original 16v ignition key. All external keys are on a brand new set of locks. I have a new ignition barrel that matches the external keys, but have kept the use of the original 16v key.Exterior:2 new wings (Passenger OEM, Driver Repro)Boot and driver door rust free from other carsResprayed in oak green (external and door checks) - June 2017G60 arches all roundNew clear glass on the front - VW HeritageHeckblendeSingle Wiper ConversionInterior:Mk3 recaros and rear bench - retrimmed in half leather and recaro fabricLeather door carsNon-OEM electric windows (using OEM switches)OEM electric mirrorsMk3 GTI clocksReplica BBS Steering WheelOEM mk2 GTI matsUncut parcel shelfUS style mk2 rear light cover - newton commercialHeadlining retrimmed in tweedDuplex Indicator Battery GaugeRadio blank installed (note that speakers are still in the car)Chassis:Underside looks to have never been welded - has been fully undersealed.Mk3 Wide track with 5x100Fully polybushedMk4 rear brakes (new discs/pads/calipers as part of refresh)Tarox 6 pot big brakesBraided hoses - brakes and clutchNew brakes lines throughoutSpax RSX CoiloversGenuine BBS LM - 17x7 et35, 5x100205/40/17 - Pirelli P Zero NeroNew bearings, ball joints etc installed 2016-2018De-powered power steering rack. As such, they are a little tight, slow to adjust.I am selling the car due to lack of use. I first got the car back on the road in June 2018 and took it off the road in Winter 2019 to carry out the noted engine upgrades. The car was then retested and back on the road in July 2021. Overall, I have only done about 600 miles in the car and as such it makes sense to move this on for someone to make proper use of it.The plate in the photos G7EGR will not be sold with the car. This is being removed and will return to its original registration H935KFC.The car is very loud, has a lumpy idle due to the 268 cam, and is very hard due to the coilover set up and full polybushed chassis. This is more of a weekend car or fair weather car than a daily driver.I have had two Mk2 owners go over the car with a fine tooth comb, who believe the car is worth £11-12k. Based on this, the car is advertised for £12k as is, or £10k for the car if you bring your own wheels. Note that no part of the car will be removed for a separate sale until the car is sold. The car will come with a box of spares - original ABF head and cams, some OEM bolts etc in bags, spare heater matrix, original mirrors etc etc.The car is in Aberdeen, in the North East of Scotland. The furthest I have travelled in the car is a 40 mile trip. As such, it is highly recommended that you organise a flatbed for collection.Note that a full build thread for the car can be found in the Members Gallery of Club GTI. It will give more intimate detail to the work complete on the car to date. I also have over 200 photos of the car from build to being on the road as well as walk round videos of the car taken 2 weeks ago.
