Volkswagen Splitscreen Campervan 1961 USA Import

After big discussions we've decided to sell our bus, it's a 1961 which went from the production line straight to Texas and came back to England in 2019. When we bought it, it was pretty standard with 6 pop outs from the factory with 5 long spoon catches (one broke but still closes) and one standard (these have been replaced with stainless ones but I do have the originals) and still has its original humpback front bench seat. Since we've had it I've fitted a 4" narrowed adjustable beam with drop spindles, CSP disc brakes and a steering box raise. At the rear is a straight axle conversion, adjustable spring plates and Koni adjustable oil filled shocks all round.

For safety there's 3 point seatbelts in the front and I have some for the rear which I took out when the interior went in, there's also new seals all-round.

Interior wise its fully insulated and sound deadened which made a huge difference, on top of that is full ply lining. I fitted a Devon interior from a bay window that was meant to be temporary until something else came up but it worked great for us with the pull out bed. it has a 110ah leisure battery with a split charger, a propex heater with a 907 camping gaz bottle (empty) a 12v socket in the cab and a usb in the rear. VW Camper curtains made the curtains which are twin sided, and blackout lined in between. The clocks in the fresh air vent are not yet wired up but I've fed all the wires through but just didn't get around to connecting them up except for the fireboy auto fire extinguisher warning light. It's been fully re-wired with the wires there for the fuel gauge and the sender, I do have a new fuel sender which again I didn't get around to fitting. The engine was re-built before we bought the bus and its never let us down in the last 2 years, it's a strong 1500 single port that I thought about upgrading for pulling our Eriba Puck (Eriba not included in the sale) but it pulled well enough not to bother and being a single carb with choke it's nice to pump the throttle once, turn the key and let it run on its own without the need to sit with your foot on the accelerator until it warms up ! the only mod in this area is a vintage speed exhaust, side exit due to the detachable tow bar. Sprintstar wheels with good tyres 165/50/15 fronts and 195/65/15 rears. The front safari windows are original, this was confirmed when I replaced the glass in one of them (thicker than the aftermarket ones). The full-length roof rack comes in handy and we always use it when we're going camping.

Welding wise it's had both front dog legs, both nearside jacking points and inner/outer sills, the offside was done just before we bought it so it's very solid. Some of the undersealing has been done but it will need some more to finish it.

The original paint seems to be still underneath the blue but you can see how far I got removing the blue exposing some of the original undercoat so I don't know if it would be all Light Grey (L345) as it is on the M plate underneath the rest of the blue, but I would guess that it would be.

The blue Royal awning is included in the sale, it attaches via the Kador strip on the gutter rail.

We will be sad to see it go and will possibly change our mind and make more of an effort to use if it doesn't sell, but at the moment it isn't being used at all.

I can include some of the retro roof rack cases if the price is right along with a full set of thermal window blinds.
