A fabulous. well prepared. tried and tested long distance rally veteran. rescued from oblivion many years ago. and now a wonderful machine.
The car has competed in no less than twenty overseas events in as many years. including a 19. 00 mile round-the-world tour. and Peking-Paris! The last owner. who took the car on the above adventures. has spent a total of about £125. 00 since 1993. on preparing. repairing and maintaining the car. and in the process has incorporated various sensible improvements to aid practicality for rally use. Amongst many procedures. the engine has recently undergone a thorough refurbishment. This is all documented. and included in the history file that accompanies the car.
A good-looking. functional ready-to-go car. with an excellent background. ready for the next chapter in an interesting life. Mo T tested until September 2014.

Douglas Dyas James. the 1 st owner of B 147 EJ was the nephew of Henry William James who in 1880 founded the James Cycle Co of Birmingham to build Penny-Farthings. by 1892 they were producing lightweight racing cycles.
In c 1900 Douglas's father John Thomas James formed the Birmingham Rim Works producing rims for both cycles & motor-cycles. upon the death of John James in 1902 the firm was run under the guidance of Henry James.
Douglas worked for both his uncle & his father in their respective firms before becoming involved in the Mining & Construction Industry.
In the 1930 s Douglas James was a director. as was his Uncle Archibald. of the Hamstead Colliery which in 1908 was the scene of a horrendous underground fire with the loss of many lives. A later owner of B 147 EJ was none other than H. R. Darby who not only wrote a book about Waltham Abbey but was the Vicar at the Abbey before he was appointed Dean of Battle (1970/75) & later the Bishop of Sherwood (1975/89).
