1994 Mercedes E320 Estate 7 Seater, Low Mileage and Full Service History

Hi and many thanks for looking at our listing for this 1994 Mercedes W124 E320 Estate.

We are Chiltern Motors based just outside of Reading close to the village of Mapledurham. We have been established since 2006 and we love our Mercedes….being specialists in older Mercedes, but also Mercedes R230 SL's

This particular car belongs to a customer of ours and we helped them find the car back in 2016  when this car had just come in from Japan. Our customer had very specific requirements and was looking for a high spec, low mileage W124 Estate and preferably a 7 seater.

This car was imported into the UK by Seymour  Pope of Kings Langley-Herts who specialise in locating and importing in high quality, low mileage, mainly European manufactured cars from Japan.

JAPANESE IMPORT CARS

Before I go onto giving more details about this car its worth explaining the Japanese Market for older cars. In Japan they have very strict annual MOT Style safety checks called Shaken, which get more expensive as the car ages and for cars over 5 years old it can get very expensive. What this means is that if an owner in Japan decides to keep an older car on the road they really have to love that car as the Shaken test is very tough.

Here's an extract of how it works ….”Shaken is done to rigorous standards and becomes expensive. Anything that is deemed even marginally unsafe or unroadworthy can deem a car unroadworthy. If a car leaves a Shaken Station without being repaired the owner will not be allowed to apply for Road Use with it ever again. Therefore owners must have their car in flawless condition to allow it to be driven on public roads. To put that into perspective, a 20 year old car has to be in perfect condition and similar to a new car just leaving the showroom floor in order for it to pass its Shaken Test……this is a TOUGH test compared to our MOT test !!!”

So bear in mind that this W124 estate was 22 years old when it came into UK …..the previous owner must really have loved and looked after this car for it to remain on the road in Japan. This is also backed up by the Japanese Service History that comes with the car, which also backs up the mileage, which is currently 164, 250 KM's which equates to 102,656 miles.

BACKGROUND HISTORY

In terms of Owners, the UK V5 shows Seymour Pope being the 1st owner for a short time as they had to register the car when it was imported into the UK. It then was registered with my customer who has effectively been the one and only owner of the car since 2016. When the car came into the UK it had 118,440kms (74,025 miles)

In the last 5 years the car has been solely looked after by Star Motors of Caversham who are very highly regarded Mercedes Specialists and during this time my customer has put 28,000 miles on the car and has thoroughly enjoyed the car, however, with Retirement, this W124 and his Mercedes C36 AMG are both being sold for a low mileage Porsche 911 that has just come in from Japan. 

CONDITION

 So to the E320 itself, the bodywork on this car is in great condition with no visible rust scabs and smart paintwork. The Interior is in great condition for a car of this age with good leather and wood inlays. On a lot of UK W124's you will find that the door cards peel away at the top and the wood inlays around the centre console can crack and things like the centre armrest get all floppy. This car has none of these issues. The carpets have also been protected from new by a set of very high quality fitted car mats and the plastics in the car are also in excellent condition.

·         October 2016 @ 125,589 KM's . Service Included Brake Fluid change, Handbrake adjustment, Bulbs, Oil Filter, Oil, Antifreeze, Clear of Underbonnet Rain Drains.

·         May 2018 @ 149,433 KM's new Headgasket and Headbolts……headgasket failed due to old age. The M104 tends to leak oil from the rear of the headgasket  and this was the case with this one and is purely down to the headgasket wearing out with older age
