1970 Toyota FJ 40 body off frame restoration and modification. The project started with a factory soft top that had blown a cylinder in the original F motor. I removed all body panels and then the engine. The entire frame was sandblasted and the coated with POR-15. All body panels were sandblasted, primed, and factory spot weld marks were fixed to a flush finish. All panels were painted individually while disassembled by a professional auto body shop in BMW metallic Impala brown from a Z3 color. A Saginaw power steering conversion and spring shackle reversal was done and a 2.5” lift kit installed. An aftermarket between the rear frame rail, 21 gallon gas tank was installed and a custom fill location added. The original drum brakes were replaced with 4 wheel Wilwood disc brakes and rotors. The original 3 speed Toyota transfer case was removed and completely rebuilt to factory new specifications. The manual transmission was replaced with a GM 700R4 automatic transmission mated to a SB Chevy 350 cubic inch V8 sporting a Quadra jet carb. The wiring was done professionally by B&T Speed Shop in Sparks, NV. All wiring is GM type weather tight connections. The original brass radiator was replaced with an aluminum 4 core and a 16” 3000cfm puller fan to keep the engine cool. The transmission has a dedicated 600 cfm fan and separate radiator to keep the 700R4 cool. A Metal Tech custom "family" roll cage, welded and mounted to the frame, was installed. LED light bar, driving lights, and rear facing lights are installed. The FJ rides on Mickey Thompson 15” aluminum wheels and 33” all terrain tires (new tires in the last 12 months with only 100 miles on them) and shock absorbers are Rancho 9000's. The rear sports a custom tire carrier and cooler/jerry can holder. A Sony marine shock resistant stereo and speakers provides tunes while driving. A bikini top provides shade when sunny out while you are protected by custom tube and aluminum diamond plate half doors. There are many more attributes to this great restoration. The list is as follows:1970 Toyota FJ 40, GM SB 350 cubic inch V8, Edelbrock Performer Intake, Edelbrock Quarda Jet 795 cfm carb (#1904), Aluminum 4 core radiator, Flex-a-lite 16” 3000 cfm puller electric fan, Nickel plated headers, 700R4 Automatic transmission, Rebuilt Toyota 3 speed transfer case, Saginaw Power Steering conversion, Shackle Reversal, 2.5” lift, Auburn Gear Limited Slip rear end (included but not yet installed), Mickey Thompson 15” aluminum wheels (5), Mickey Thompson 33” Baja ATZ tires (5), Rancho 9000 shocks, Cyberdyne digital Led Instruments, I-did-It tilt steering column, Air Horn, Metal Tech Custom “family” roll cage mounted to the frameCustom tube/aluminum diamond plate half doors, Custom center console, Man-a-fre rear tire carrier/cooler/jerry can/bumper, New Optima Red Top Battery, Mileage: 255 miles on the engine, Clear NV Title in hand, AND MUCH MORE!
