Here we have a 1964 Mk1 Triumph Spitfire that has been fitted with a 2 Litre straight 6 engine and overdrive gearbox from a Triumph 2000.

The engine consists of a low mileage bottom end that has a reconditioned cylinder head.

My plan was to build the car as a hillclimb/ sprint car but unfortunately a change of circumstances means this is no longer possible.Over £5000 has been spent in the process of preparing it for competition use, most parts have been purchased from Jigsaw Triumph specialists. The main modifications are as follows:AVO adjustable suspension on the front and adjustable spax units on the rearSpitfire 1500 swing spring conversion with lowering plate between the spring and the diffUprated anti-roll barRed polybushes have been fitted throughoutMGB V8 front brake calipersStainless steel tubular exhaust manifold and twin pipe exhaust system - sounds awesome!Twin HS6 SU carburettors from a Dolomite SprintMk1 GT6 steel bonnet with additional bulge to clear the carbsFibreglass bootlidCompetition roll bar fitted behind the seatsMountney steering wheelDolomite sprint ally wheels with new Yokohama tyresThe replacement fuel tank was stripped and lined with an ethanol proof coatingNew Accuspark electronic distributor and coilMini Cooper bucket seatsFacet electric fuel pumpElectric cooling fanK&N Air filtersThe bodywork has plenty of patina but could really do with a bit of work and a respray to make it show worthy. The original chromed steel bumpers are present should you wish to put it back to standard.I have not yet thoroughly road tested the car, so would recommend that it is collected on a trailer, it has only covered a handful of miles locally and it will need a thorough check over before being used in anger. The next items on my to do list were to fit a gearbox tunnel and setup the adjustable suspension and steering.Restored Early Spitfires are now bringing £20,000-£25,000, with a bit of time and effort, this car could be finished to the standard that it deserves.Viewing recommended and welcomed.
