Recent import (2020) from South Africa with very good bodywork, excellent factory shut-lines and only the smallest amount of rust, the (recent) paintwork in metallic silver with metallic black roof really shines. Red leatherette interior is typical VW comfortable, (but squishy) has nice patina and is in good condition with red carpets.

This is a German-built factory-original 1961 Right Hand Drive car, confirmed by the car's build certificate.

Running the original drum brakes and a later, healthy engine with correct oil-bath air filter setup, (electrics converted to 12V) loads of mechanical and electrical work was done for the MOT in June this year.  A full list of works carried out for this year's MOT:

Replaced King-pin links, tie rod and tie rod endAdjusted handbrake and traced brake fluid leak on OSR, and secured brake pipes all round. Stripped, cleaned and adjusted to clear brake imbalance issues.Repaired drivers seat sliderFitted front lap beltsReplaced rear number plate lamp, repaired NSR indicator, adjusted OSF headlamp aim.Investigated and corrected engine oil leak.Replaced front brake wheel cylinders.Replaced rear brake shoesReplaced rear hub sealsFitted electric windscreen washer kitFitted new wiper switch with new wiring harness to wiper motor.Replaced starter motorReplaced driver side window glass and mounting rubber.Note no bodywork whatsoever required for the MOT!

The South African 4-into-1 exhaust sounds more Porsche than VW, and the carb and timing need to be set up correctly. (Hoping to get this done Saturday 2nd Oct.)

As a result of the MOT test, everything essential works. The period radio is not connected.

There is no 30 year SA service history, and I don't believe the odometer reading because though it is in miles, I have no way of telling how many times it has been around the clock.

Obviously lacks bumpers (but the inner bumper brackets are still in place and stainless bumpers with all bracketry are available from the Owners Club) and the interior would be better with  a more correct steering wheel...

Based in Milton Keynes, the car is available for viewing whenever you like.  Our kettle is always on for tea and coffee.

Additional photos are available, and more can be taken, a walk-round video can be provided, and areas of particular interest can be shown.

I'm told an original RHD early coupe is a reasonably rare find, and with very solid bodywork and decent paint, is a good project start.  Definitely not a paragon of perfect originality, but a running, driving, recently MOT'd car with none of the UK tinworm.

I'd prefer interested potential buyers to view the car in the metal, as 12 photos don't tell the whole story.

No warranty is offered or implied.

A deposit will secure the car, with full payment and collection within 10 days of an agreed sale.
