Vehicle Details
This 1908 IHC Auto Buggy was built by International Harvester. It's in very original condition. It has a 2 Cylinder horizontally opposed gas engine with a 2 speed transmission with reverse. It has a steering wheel instead of a tiller. The rear seat was easily removed so you could take goods to town. Top speed is 20 mph and was cheaper to maintain then a team of horses. In the 1900's most people lived in rural America. International Harvester wanted to build a car that was designed for the farmer. They were a large manufacturer of farm equipment and wagons therefore they had the ability to manufacturer any car they would have liked, unlike other small startups of the time. They focused on building it with familiar technology. This meant that your local blacksmith could easily fix anything on the carriage and the engine was very similar to other engines. They wanted a vehicle that was familiar as a horse and buggy but more productive. The Auto Buggy holds an important place in automotive history of America as it leads to an unbroken line of lineage that leads directly to the modern International Trucks on the road today This Auto Buggy is in good running condition and is a blast to drive.
