It is with regret that I am selling “Basil” my 1967 Riley Elf. I believe there are only 2 previous owners and I have owned the car for 2.5 years and during that time I have spent in excess of £6000. It was originally used by my daughter as an everyday car so the front brakes were upgraded to discs, better headlights fitted, 5 new tyres all round and dynamo replaced with an alternator to make it more practical for daily use. She has now bought her own car so the Riley is no longer used. It shows 37,500 miles but as the car is over 50 yrs old I doubt this is correct.In late 2020 the engine started overheating and this was diagnosed as a faulty head gasket which was replaced. After much expense it turned out the head was warped. As a result, in order to do the job properly I had the whole engine removed and completely rebuilt including a new cylinder head to run on unleaded fuel, piston rings, big end shells, oil pump, cam bearings and followers, thrust bearing, clutch, clutch slave cylinder, engine mountings and much more. While the engine was out the car was resprayed and has covered less than 200 miles since all the work was done. I have invoices to verify.The car is TAX and MOT exempt but has an MOT to August 2022 for peace of mind. It makes us smile every time we go in it and gets attention and admiration wherever we go. The car is now 54 years old and is a good reliable usable motor and priced to sell.Its does require a couple of minor jobs to improve: new drivers door lock needs fitting (supplied) and front seat bases need repair. Its a great little car, reliable, fun and ready to drive away. Also advertised on Facebook so reserve the right to end listing early.
