1971 Mercury Cougar Hardtop. 49000 original miles. 2 family owned. Asking $15800.00. 351 2V Cleveland, FMX Auto, VIN tag codes: Body-65D; Exterior Paint-3; Trim-1A; DSO-17; Axle-6; Trans-X. Yes, Ford/Mercury picked the perfect name for the paint color, "Bright Red". Here is a nice fairly low mileage Mercury Cougar, I am the second family owner, I purchased off the original family that was in Maryland. Factory options on the car include full console with clock, tinted glass, power steering, power front disc brakes, black vinyl top, remote control drivers mirror, factory a/c (all there but probably needs a recharge). As you can see in the photos, the car is nice and straight and presents well. Underneath is nice with no major defects, floors and trunk are nice. The trim such as emblems, door handles, bumpers, etc. are very nice though the grill is has cracks and dented. All glass is good with no breaks or cracks. On the very bottom of each rear quarter there are two small patches which were professionally done by a restoration shop in Salisbury, Maryland, one has to look hard to find them. The original family owner did have some paint touch up on the car but it presents well as a nice driver. The original interior is very nice, no rips or splits in the seats, headliner, door panels, etc. Carpeting is nice. Dash and speedometer cluster very nice; steering wheel nice with no cracks. The car is equipped with a vintage in-dash AM/FM 8-Track stereo radio. The radio works fine, 8-track untested right now. The radio is dash mounted and nothing in the dash bezel or front was cut so if you wanted to replace with an original Mercury radio, you can. The original family owners told me that the radio was installed shortly after it was purchased new. Cool radio though, when a stereo station is picked up, the radio lights up in red "STEREO". The car has new tires (General 205/70/14) mounted on aluminum slots which displays nicely (original wheels and hubcaps come with the car). Other recent service improvements on the car; professionally rebuilt carb, new points, condenser, rotor, cap, spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil and filter changed (Valvoline VR1 high zinc and Motorcraft filter), new front brake hoses, alternator, fairly recent brakes KYB shocks and minor spring work, and alternator. Heater / ac vacuum controls work well and heater works well. Two speed wipers work well. All interior and exterior lights work. The car is a nice driver and fairly "snappy", trans shifts well, engine quiet and as you can see, has a nice stance. This is pretty much a get in, turn the key and drive. I have the original owners manual and original 1971 Maryland title. Of course with any 50 year old car, some tweaking will be needed per the preference of the driver/owner. If you are looking for a 100 point restored show car with perfect paint, no dirt in engine bay, etc, look elsewhere, but if you're looking for an honest and fun car to take to cruises , local shows or just as a driver, this car might be for you. On a lighter note, the 1971 models were pretty much the last year of the higher horsepower engines as they took a dive in 1972. Car is being sold "AS-IS" with no warranty expressed or implied. Sale is on a cash basis, sale goes to first party that pays. Car is located in North Eastern Pennsylvania in the Wilkes-Barre area. Note that car is advertised locally and this ad from Ebay could be withdrawn. Review the photos and if you would like any additional specific photos or other information or have other questions, please ask. If you wish to speak verbally, send me your number and I'll call you back, after all it's a car for sale and not a trinket of some sort. One question already asked, "Why are you selling, looks like a nice car?". I am selling because a year and model car in a color I like better came up and I can't have both. Please don't waste my time or your time with "lowball" offers, Thx for looking.
