1972 Ford F-100

Affectionately known as “Truckie” this beauty has been a member of our family for 44 years. He came to live with us in Georgia from Alabama where he had worked for the Alabama Power Company doing all the tasks required of an awesome, strong, and versatile 1972 Ford F-100 Side-Step, wooden-bed – with 4-in-the-floor Granny -Gear – truck on the power company's fleet of vehicles. Once the trucks there had the mileage stated as “enough” by APC they were then painted and sold. The only visible sign now of where Truckie lived is his rear bumper which still has embedded in the metal – “Birmingham”. We were lucky enough to be able to buy this fine slime-green vehicle and call it our own. I had always dreamed of having a dependable and sturdy truck – one that could carry my john boat and all my fishing tackle and one of my daughters or a friend, grandchild, or son-in-law to my favorite fishing pond. Not only did it satisfy the recreational side of life but, of course, got me back and forth safely every single day to my job at the Military College where I was professor of military science but then he took me to my job after retirement to my new career of 20 years at a youth development center. When the time came for me to move on to retirement Truckie took my wife to her job as preschool director and teacher each morning and back safely when work was done. Truckie loved it when the grandchildren would hop over into the truck bed, spread out a blanket and have a picnic while parked in the yard or driveway. It seemed more of an adventure there. He was even able to help a local politician by driving around with one of his signs in the back and was glad to see that the friend was elected to office and served the community well. He carried many an antique for friends who loved to scour the surrounding shops for bargains that we brought home. Our daughters moved many, many times and Truckie was called into action making those relocation dreams a reality. Anything we needed of this fine truck we found him a most dependable friend. Truckie has experienced many new facelifts, paint colors, seat covers, work on his engine, new shoes, interior work, and now is the black-and-white combination you see in the picture. Nine years ago my Ford truck went to live in north Georgia with my grandson, fulfilling a promise I made to him when he was 5 years old. Tyler drove Truckie to school every day and was the envy of every student at High School. He also went to College after high school graduation. Time marches on and things change as they always do. He is in his 3rd year of medical school now and his needs and priorities are different. The reality is the future holds many more years of study and expenses. You have a chance to own a very special piece of my heart – and a real beauty of a truck – he's not getting any younger and needs some TLC – but you will love this truck.He runs great and drives wonderfully and is in excellent condition…but it is an old truck and I can't guarantee everything so it is going to be sold AS IS….but don't let that terminology fool you…. This truck is part of family and has been treated as such for a long time. Now it is time for “truckie” to be part of someone elses family!Truckie is located in Milledgeville, GA and you will either need to come and pick him up or make arrangements to have him shipped to you.
