Mk 2 Escort for sale. Genuine 1600 Sport.

South African import – I have the V 5 C in my name. Car is MOT & Tax exempt.

The car was imported by a very well known Scottish importer and I purchased it before it even went up for general sale.

My only concern when I purchased the car was a solid shell as I did not want to be replacing panels or cutting out rust. They certainly did not disappoint me with this one.

The cars paintwork is so clean. It's a real 1600 sport as stated on the V 5 C and I have a copy of the South African dating certificate too and the chassis number is stamped too. The shell has all the strengthening panels the same as our RS models do.

My intention was to build this car but unfortunately, I just haven't been able to find the time yet and don't think I now will as purchased something else. If someone is looking to re-shell a rotten UK Car or even build a mk 2 this is the perfect base to start with.

The car came on 4 spoke alloys as you'll see in some of the photos but I have since installed my 13 inch minilite type 7 J wheels. 2 New R 888 r tyres on rear and 2 toyos on the fronts. All great tread. The 1600 sport interiors is all present, front seats don't fold forward unless you manually lift the mechanism. I have installed new outer window rubbers to both doors as they weren't present when I purchased the car.

The engine now runs, so I've been able to hear it idle & run up to temperature go back and forth on the driveway etc. The gearbox selects all gears but is sloppy on selection. I purchased the car as a non runner with no intention of keeping this engine, I have since bought a new battery and a new genuine weber 1600 sport carburettor, new plugs and filter etc. I would recommend a good tune up but it is running and idles.

The shell has had the two rear tubs welded in but it's been done well and to a good standard. Like I say I cant fault the car. I've replaced the carpets too, so have been able to see all the floor pans and they are really solid throughout. Its very very clean and exactly what I wanted as a base for my project.

The wiring is the only thing left to sort out so will need looking at, for instance the car has sidelights, headlights need looking at, brake lights and indicators need looking at too. I've had a look under the dash, wiring is all present but needs a going over.

The car will need collecting by trailer/transporter and is located In Southend Essex.
