1985 Mazda RX-7

PLEASE DON'T BID ON THIS CAR IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BUY IT.

I shouldn't even have to say that. I have had to relist thiscar and I lost two weeks of selling time because someone bid and “won” with nointent to purchase. I live in Minnesota. When winter comes, if I haven't soldthe car, I will need to start paying for storage. You harm me financially withfake bids. Please be a decent human and only place bids if you are in themarket to buy.

With that being said, up for sale is one of the best vintagecars I've ever owned – a 1985 Mazda RX7 GSL with the 1.1/12A engine. Unfortunately,the time has come to buy a car that I can drive all year, without worryingabout it.

I have a lot of the original paperwork (which will beprovided with the car) and as far as I can tell, I am only the second or maybethird owner of this car. I purchased it from a Mazda dealership that hadreceived it as a trade in from either the original owner or the owner's son. Asof the writing of this ad, it has 62,532 original miles on it. The color is aharder-to-find Ocean Blue. It drives very well. It has been my daily driverduring spring, summer and fall for the past four years or so. A lot of thingshave been repaired on it and it has been well-maintained. There are issues Iwant to make sure and disclose and I will list everything that I know about thecar. I don't have paperwork for every single repair, so I am not going to listdates. All work listed has been done in the last month to maybe three years orso. I am not a mechanic so all of the information is either from the placewhere it was repaired or from my own experience driving it.

I won't be able to arrange delivery or deliver the car toyou. If you're not local, hauling will be your responsibility. If you arelocal, you can pick it up and drive it away. In its present condition, I wouldtrust it to be driven a reasonable distance.

The good:

·        Only 62,532 original miles (this will change by afew miles between now and sale date).

·        All hoses were replaced shortly after I boughtit.

·        Both front brake calipers have been replacedwithin the last few months.

·        Thermostat is fairly new.

·        Brake pads and rotors were replaced in bothfront and back in 2020.

·        Near-mint interior. There is a small cigaretteburn on the driver seat and a tear in the side of the driver seat, facing thedoor. The rest of the seats and the carpet are in nice shape throughout and Iam a non-smoker.

·        Original radio with cassette player andequalizer work. I can't guarantee the cassette player works as I have only usedthe radio.

·        The choke cable is fairly new and the chokeworks as it's supposed to. I've only had to use it when driving in the fall andearly winter, before snow, when it was really cold out.

·        The AC and heat both work.

·        When I bought the car, the dealership showed methe entire underside and said that it was in better shape than mostfive-year-old cars they had seen. As a result, they did an undercoat. Theunderside does not show major rust of any kind.

·        Headlights were replaced about four to sixmonths ago.

·        Dome lights and removable top function as theyshould.

·        Automatic windows work well, as do theadjustable sideview mirrors.

Bonuses:

·        You will receive the recently replaced frontright brake caliper which can be refurbished so that you will have an extra.These are hard to find.

·        A while back, the turn signals weren't workingand we thought it was the CPU. I purchased a CPU on eBay that had come out ofanother 85. It turned out to be a different issue but you will also get thatspare CPU.

·        Custom-fit sunshade included.

·        Original slipcover/storage bag for the removabletop.

·        There are two keys that open the doors and turnthe ignition.

·        A lot of original paperwork will be included,including original pamphlets, instructions for the radio, old registration andrepair information, and an unopened keychain that was a gift for filling out asurvey of some kind. I'll also throw in a phone charger that plugs into thelighter and a doohicky that looks like a cassette tape but connects to yoursmartphone so that (in theory) you should be able to play music from your phonein the car by attaching it to your phone and sticking the cassette in theplayer. Fair warning – I have never used it in this particular car. It workedin my last vehicle though.

The not-so-good:

·        Unfortunately, someone bumped the front leftfender in a parking lot and took off. That fender can be repaired (according toa body shop I went to) or you can find a replacement fender. They are actuallyavailable.

·        Also, while it was parked, a giant truck backedup onto it and scratched the hood near the right-side headlight. There isn't adent but the paint is damaged. Neither of these body issues affect the tire orthe headlight from popping up. They are merely cosmetic.

·        The rear brakes are starting to give out littlesqueals here and there. This means that the calipers will need to be replacedin the not-too-distant future.

·        The radiator has a small leak. It does not causeany problems other than needing to top off the coolant every once in a while. Ichose not to fix it because I knew I would be selling it. Eventually, theradiator will need to be repaired or replaced.

·        The struts that hold up the hatchback areoriginal and they have mostly lost their power. Sometimes the hatch stays upjust fine. Sometimes, it stays up halfway. Sometimes it whacks you on the headwhile you're loading stuff. Those will need to be recharged or replaced if youwant the hatch fully functional.

·        The rear wiper doesn't work because of thestruts. It was designed so that it would not operate if the hatch was open. Becausethe struts don't fully engage when the hatch is closed, the wiper reads thehatch as open and doesn't work. If you fix the struts, you will fix the washer.Because it is not in use, the washer fluid container is empty. This means thatthe washer light on the dash is always lit.

·        The car may be due for a minor tune-up.

·        The tires and battery are three to four yearsold and might need replacing, depending on how much you drive and the weatherin which you're driving it. Although, the right rear tire is new.

·        Rear speakers sound pretty good. Front speakersdon't really function. But the tiny joystick that controls where the soundcomes from is just about my favorite thing.

·        Someone broke the antenna off and it is juststuck in the antenna hole. It still works reasonably well as an antenna.
