Just 5000 miles travelled since complete restoration using the original shell including a bare-metal repaint. new floor panels. heelboards. boot floor and seal panel with a photographic record to support. A complete engine rebuild by Southam Mini Centre was also undertaken. much recent maintenance has been carried out by Simon Drew Mini Works. The car also benefits from a detailed engine bay.

Here is some history from the previous owner who part exchanged the car for an Alfa Romeo that we were selling:

Over the past 3 years I have spent a lot of time and money sorting out the engine and bodywork with the result that it now mechanically excellent   and structurally very sound.    The engine runs sweetly with consistently strong oil pressure (95 psi). the gearbox works smoothly. the brakes are excellent and the water temperature sits nicely at “normal”. The hydrolastic suspension sits evenly across all 4 wheels and the interior is close to immaculate.

The car was taken off the road in 1982 and was in storage for a number of years before being stripped down and rebuilt using original components. The bodywork was taken back to bare metal and resprayed. This work was completed in 2004 by Goodbrook Motors. Redditch.

The mileage on 15 September 1981 shows 92857 on the MOT certificate. The mileage today is 98650 – I've done about 1000 miles a year in the 3 years I've owned it.

I purchased the car in summer 2010  and have had a lot of  work carried out in order to get it to the level I wanted. The first action  was a complete engine rebuild. carried out by Southam Mini and Metro centre. who have an excellent reputation in the classic Mini world.   This was based around a replacement genuine Cooper S thick flange block – I have retained the original and can sell on if required. The invoice came to £3443 and included the block. a set of omega pistons . 020. new mains and conrod bearings. a new Sw5 billet camshaft. a set of cam followers and a vernier duplex kit. ARP rod bolts. valve guides. plus machining.

I took the car back to Southam the following year for some improvements to the structure of the bodyshell. This included  new front and rear floor panels and sills. heelboards. boot floor and seat panel. all carried out with correct parts and using the original welding techniques.   A CD with photos of the work is available if required. The underside of the car is now perfect.   At the same time some further remedial work was carried out free of charge to the engine. as some sandblasting medium had washed out into the cam follower bores and these had to be re-machined. Total costs of this came to £5967.

This year the car has run reliably on the road and I have concentrated on further  snagging work aimed at improving driveability and  reliability. Most of this work has been undertaken by Simon Drew at The Mini Works in Cockenzie. near Edinburgh. nbsp; which is relatively local to me. Simon is well known in cIassic mini circles and several of his restorations have appeared in the Mini publications. I have had a leaky hydrolastic pipe replaced. a replacement hydrolastic displacer unit and sundry other items snagged.

The only reason for selling is that I want to move on to another classic – I'm not a marque fetishist. and I'd like to experience something else now that the mini is in a condition that I'm happy with.

The car is in excellent condition. is on the button and ready to be enjoyed.
