MGA Twin Cam Roadster 1958 // Fully Documented Photographic Restoration

The original De-luxe seats have been completely reupholstered in biscuit leather, door cards and dash facia refurbished and carpets replaced during the extensive 4 year restoration, Jan 1991 to December 1995 and all remain in excellent order. 

The MGA classic woodrim polished steering wheel & boss are as new. Nice period touches have been added such as a Monte Carlo gear knob, navigator footrest, fire extinguisher, Radiomobile radio and rear storage pocket. All original Jaeger clocks and Smiths gauges work perfectly and have crystal clear glass, the speedo and rev-counter have been fully restored and recalibrated... Stunning

Exterior

The Ash Green (Code GN.2) paintwork is stunning which is testament to the quality of the bare metal restoration completed 26 years ago. The history file contains 90+ Polaroid pictures of the car before, during and after restoration, the panel fit is excellent as you can see from the pictures, only original panels were used.  The bright work is excellent throughout, where possible original items have been restored and retained. The rare factory hard top, black vinyl roof and frame are as new, the matching side screens and full tonneau cover all unmarked. 

The underside is solid, chassis stripped and painted, new floors, and all originally built to concours standard, she even retains the original and correct sill trims.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

Complete with 5 original fully restored knock-on steel disc wheels and excellent chrome spinners. Dressed with all matching Avon Turbo Steel 165 x 15 tyres. 

The original fully overhauled Dunlop disc brakes fitted to all four wheels give the Twin Cam the braking efficiency to match its performance.

Engine & Transmission

The engine bay is superbly presented. The polished aluminium camshaft covers distinguish the engine of the Twin Cam. 

Understood to be matching numbers a full and extensive engine and gearbox rebuild was completed in 1991 by expert engine builders Priestley Precision Engineering, County Durham.  The twin SU's have been fully rebuilt, and the cylinder heads refreshed again in November 1999. A mere 14k miles has been completed since 1991. 

She starts quickly hot or cold, selects gears with ease and the clutch is light and progressive. The fast revving Twin Cam sounds lovely through the full stainless steel exhaust system... Such fun to drive.

Summary

The very comprehensive history file is packed with invoices and receipts for mainly original parts and work done over the last 30 years. Many hand written notes record the cars progress through the 4 year restoration of Jan 1991 to Dec 1995. 

Understood to be matching numbers. Restored in Northern Ireland by expert restorer Mr Laurence Brush to concours standard and subsequently winning a high profile Benson & Hedges classic car concours event.

NOW... A SPECIAL TOP PERFORMANCE MGA

In early 1958, 3 pre-production Twin Cams were built and were excessively tested for both engine and braking development.  Maximum production was initially set at 25 per week and sold to selected customers knowledgeable of the needs of a high performance automobile. Production officially ceased 13th April 1960 with a total of 2110 cars built (1801 roadsters 310 coupes) by the Abingdon-On-Thames assembly plant. Six weeks after production had ended 1 further car was produced and completed 3rd June 1960. The Twin Cam is enthusiastically supported to this day, its understood that 60% of all cars produced are known to have survived.
