He found this car a few months ago. very well stored but unloved and down at heel. This had been standing 10 years and was a non-runner with no brakes and very little working electrically.
This has had new master cylinder. wheel cylinder (F&R) and new brakes shoes (F&R). and the brakes are spot on (I drove it today. I can vouch for that. ). He has also spent a considerable amount of time sorting out most of the electrical gremlins too. The engine was sorted and got running. I have to say. it is the smoothest straight six I have ever known.
His long term plan was to put hydraulic suspension all round and a set of 20" alloys. with lots of offset to fill the arches. However. his business has taken off and he has very little time to devout to this any longer so has asked me to sell it for him (He hates selling cars). This is a shame. as this would be a real show stopper at any UK show. dropped in the weeds. massive alloys and a 'couldn't give a s#%t' look about it. (There is/was a green 1959 Chevrolet Impala coupe doing the rounds a while back. it was AWESOME)
This is very rare as Edsels were only built for 3 years. 1958 to 1960. Of those. in 1959 this was the most popular body style (4 door sedan). however a very small percentage were opted with straight six engines. the majority were V8's Of the straight sixes. in the states they were least desirable so had the lowest survival rate. This is an EXTREMELY rare car in the States. even more so over here in the UK.
Back in 1988 this car was featured in the first ever issue of Classic American Magazine with John Peel driving it. He has a copy of the magazine
So. the good bits;
Honest & rare carBodily solidAll new brakessweet engineFree taxMOT exemptIdeal starter YankOriginal wheel trims in the boot
Bad bits;
Interior a bit down at heel. perfect for rat look mind. Carburettor could do with good clean out & tune up'Generator' light onRequires 2 tyres (never replaced as plan was to change wheels & tyres)Will want restoring if you want a mint car.There may be some other things I have missed. but feel free to call me on 07897 674497 if you have any questions.
This hasn't been on the show scene for a long time. so an easy winter project will have you a rat look winner for next year.
Due to the tyres and poor running (carburettor) I would not advise driving this car far until you have had chance to get it all sorted.
