Mk1 VW Golf GTI 1982.  MOT until 09/06/22 and HPI clear.

History:

The vehicle was born in the Wolfsburg factory in November 1982.  It was then sold from a VW dealership in Germany and was first registered on 01/12/82.  The vehicle remained in German until it was imported to the UK and registered on 16/01/98.  I have managed to trace the UK owner that imported the vehicle.  He was working in German and bought the vehicle to use there, he loved the car that much that when his employment stopped, he imported it back with him.  I have photos of how the car looked when it was imported.  He then eventually sold it to one of his friends, who then got the vehicle professionally converted to RHD.  He missed it that much he bought it back from his friend in the end.

It has had 9 previous owners in total and I have a ring binder full of receipts from some of the work that has been done to the vehicle.  The mileage is currently at 59000 and this is backed up with old MOT certificates going back to 2000.  I believe the clocks would have been changed when it was converted to RHD and there is no documented mileage/Km of what the old clocks were prior to this.

The vehicle was restored in 2015 and the last owner rebuilt the engine in 2017, then it has been a garage queen since then.  I purchased the vehicle last year and during my ownership I have had all the fluids changed (oil/filter, brake fluid and coolant), replaced the door seals, all of the locks, ignition coil and other parts mentioned below.  It flew passed it first MOT since 2017 with only two advisories, a exhaust joint was blowing and the rear O/S hub needed adjustment.  The garage carried out this work so its in great condition.  The MOT mechanic commented on that it looked like a new vehicle underneath.

The previous owner paid to get a certificate from the Wolfsburg factory confirming the original spec as when it left the factory and that it is an authentic GTI.

Body work:

The body shell and paint is in an amazing condition with no rust or rot.  The MOT mechanic believed it has had new outer sills and rear arches before it was repainted in 2015 and that the work was done to a high standard.  The underneath has been treated to some protection paint and then waxoyled.  I have a video and photos of underneath the vehicle when it was up on the ramp that I can send to you.  It has a factory fitted sunroof from new that is water tight but the outer seal could do with being replaced as starting to look old and not in keeping with the level of the rest of the vehicle.

When I bought the vehicle I wasn't happy with a couple of paint imperfections on both of the front wings, these have now had a bare metal respray and look great like the rest of the car.  I have also had a full set of GTI plastic arches reinstalled, these have been bonded on as I didn't want the perfect arches to be drilled and a new front spoiler.  It has a rear BBS spoiler fitted that was added by a previous owner.

I have a set of the silver GTI stripe decals that haven't been put on yet, I cannot make my mind up on whether to put them on or not, so will leave that decision to the new owner to make!

Interior:

Originally the seats would have been covered in the silver stripe but at some point in its life they have been retrimmed in the red and black checks and with a Wolfsburg logo on the headrests.  Its been done to a very high standard and there is no wear to any of them.  Its has had a recent new headliner.  The dash has no cracks and is in good condition.  The two side air vents have wear around them but this isn't too bad, just want to be honest.  Door cards are fine but I would replace them if I was going to keep it as the passengers one has a small tear on bottom corner.  The rear wiper and washer are not connected as well as the one centre console gauge, it's on my list to do but never got round to it.

Engine:

Original 1800DX engine.  This was set up in 2015 to run on twin 45 Webber carburettors, these could be sold and the funds would pay for the Kjet to be reinstalled if not to your taste.  The last owner told me that he rebuilt the engine in 2017 and that it has a high lift camshaft (not sure which one) with an adjustable cam pulley.  The carbs were set up on a rolling road back then and the car drives well but due to the performance camshaft, the engine does prefer being revved than driving at low revs, but it does sounds awesome.  The engine bay was also painted during the respray, so is nice and clean.  The ignition has been uprated to a Lumenition electronic module with a Lucas sports coil.

Wheels, suspension and brakes:

Immaculate refurbished 14inch Pirelli P slots alloys with red detailing around centre caps and in one of the P slots, as photo.  Tyres are like new all-round 185 55 r14.

The suspension was refreshed and had new Pro Sport coil overs that are currently set up quite low but can be adjusted to your taste.

It has discs up front and drums at the rear.

I am selling this vehicle as I had the chance of buying my dream car, so I took it and now I have too many vehicles and the Mrs isn't too happy.  I have been as honest as I can about any issues, in order to prevent wasting your or my time.

This vehicle is a great solid example, it's not in concourse condition but the new owner could enjoy as it is, or they could spend minimal, to take it to the next level.  The prices of these vehicles are always going up so it makes a great investment that you can also enjoy.  I have priced this at a realistic price that reflects the above issues and that it was an import.

Please contact me for any further details or photos/videos of the car.

No PX and I won't ship abroad.

Thankyou for your interest.
