Vehicle Details

1988 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. This is a first year Sahara with 7833 original miles. I purchased this Jeep from the original owner in mid 2016. It has been part of my personal collection since that time and has only been driven around that block over the years to keep things fresh. The Jeep was sold new at Baker Jeep Eagle out of Wilmington Delaware on 03/10/1988. The mileage statement dated 3/10/1988 indicates 24 miles at time of purchase. It was sold to a Mr. Hood who purchased it for the sole purpose to keep it as his beach house to use when they went to visit. It was near Rehobeth Beach. The Jeep was kept in a garage a the residence with the top off and only used when the family would visit. The Jeep was used for around town driving and to occasionally launch their jet skis. The Jeep remained at the residence 90% of the time unless a storm coming at which time it would be brought inland and kept in one of the owners warehouses. As the family got older the Jeep got used less and less. When the owner entered his 70's he decided to sell the Jeep as it was no longer being used. That is when I purchased the Jeep. I have not done anything to it and kept it as an ultimate survivor and reference vehicle for my business. I have been slowly downsizing over the past two years and it is time for this one to move on as well. The Jeep is original down to its tires. They are original. They are not dryrotted. I only drive this thing for quick trips and never go above 50mph. The engine still retains alot of original AMC parts such as hoses and wires. The Jeep has never been detailed. The engine compartment has never been detailed or cleaned. It was never purchased to be collected. It was used and put away and maintained when it needed to be. The Jeep was purchased with hardtop and hard doors. There is no air conditioning. It is a 4.2 6cyl with the automatic transmission. Has power steering and power brakes. Everything works including the original radio and center cluster with clock. The interior is the cleanest interior I have ever seen on an early YJ. The steering wheel, door cards, visors, dash and dash parts and seats all look like NOS. The seats are so clean and nice that I wear sweatpants and put a towel under me when I take it for a drive. It runs and drives as it should. Starts up with few pumps of gas. There are a few issues though. I am being 100% transparent. I never touched this Jeep when I bought it and it is as is has aged. The Jeep received undercoating when new. There is places with surface rust only on the bottom of the Jeep as it was used as a launch vehicle. It is worse towards the back but there is no rot. The center skid plate is fine and all the mounting bolts are correct and the way they should be along with the body mounts. The lower edge or the rear body and around the tailgate hinges have surface rust. Due to it being a launch vehicle the only major things replaced on it were the muffler and tailpipe, rear brakes, rear brake lines, rear parking brake lines and some of the emissions tubes. A tow bar was placed on shortly after purchase. There are a few scratches on this Jeep but no dents. It has never been in a crash and has a clean carfax. One of the fog light housings has a crack in it. Due to the Jeep being kept with the top off there are spot of surface rust inside. There is a little bit on the column shifter and on the driver side seat base, floor and bolts. There is no rot though. The floors are solid. The transfer case and transmissions seals are leaking a little bit as most stuff this old does when it is not used. It is just wet. The ground stays dry below it. Sometime in the late 1990's the Jeep was being kept in the warehouse when someone broke into the warehouse. The Jeep was not kept locked due to being kept inside. Someone tried to steal the Jeep but got as far as breaking off the ignition collar while trying to pull the ignition. The original ignition still remains along with the broken collar and original keys. The title is a clean NJ title that shows 8000 miles even. When the original owner decided to sell the vehicle he filled out the title and didnt know the exact number so he just put 8000 knowing that it was close to that. Comes with original books and papers as well as the odometer statement, vin request form and insurance info. This is one of the lowest mileage first generation Sahara's and probably the most original survivor. I do not think it has even been watched. Vehicle is for pickup only. I can assist with shipping if need be. Vehicle is being sold without warranty. Feel free to message me with questions and for more pictures.
