1988 Jaguar XJS Aluminum for sale
Current customer rating: (55 votes ) based onNO RESERVE!!
You are viewing an absolutely drop dead GORGEOUS 1988 Jaguar XJ-S in the famous Gulf Livery paint scheme.
This is a very reluctant sale of a unique Jaguar.
Note: bonnet (hood) is just loosely placed on vehicle as shown in photos as it has been off during engine work.
I decided to list for sale because I already have 2 other Jaguar projects I must complete first.
This Gulf Jaguar is in my barn collecting dust and I would rather see it get back on the road by an enthusiast.
The Gulf base colors are real paint in excellent condition. Not a wrap. There is NO rust and is an incredibly solid XJ-S. Both the former keeper and myself have always kept it stored indoors.
It started life with a 5.3 V-12.
I drove it with it's V12 up until earlier in the year. The original V12 had a rare jackrod failure and it was at that point that I decided to change the engine to something that would match the character of the exterior.
I decided on a 95' XJR-6 Supercharged Engine. THIS XJ-S DOES NOT RUN AND DRIVE YET. In the right hands, this can be finished in a long weekend.
The XJR-6 Engine and Gearbox are already fit and mounted.
Most of the plumbing including the over-fill, custom aluminum radiator, and auxiliary water pump have been fitted.
There are still more bits to be done before she can be started and driven.
Has EVERYTHING included to finish the job, all ECU's etc.
Since it is an early supercharged engine, it does not have immobilizers or anything else which would complicate the install. All of the ECU's are the exact same ones for this engine. I personally had this engine pulled from a running/driving XJR-6 which was retired due to HVAC issues.
Brakes in great functioning condition, it was driven up until the engine transplant.
Rear axle is also in excellent condition and I serviced it last year just prior to deciding to remove engine.
What it generally needs to run and drive;
-Driveshaft shortened.
-Electrical harness to fuel rail spliced back together (when I bought the engine they were cut) & other miscellaneous electrical connections. (Not my strong suite) The wiring harness generally just plugs straight into the ECU's and my intent was to install them in the passenger footwell just as was intended.
-Exhaust connected
-A more powerful fuel pump to feed this engine.
-Anything else would likely be a walk in the park for anyone competent with engine transplants. This was my first engine swap with this type of engine.
-Using the original XJ-S instrument cluster, though I have the XJR cluster if so desired.
(Also keep in mind that any other parts you may need in the future I should have as I have collected a second set of most everything)
Full custom brushed aluminum interior suits the car nicely and took a lot of time and labor. Many hand punched rivets. I planned on putting leather or carpet in any vacant areas which are not covered with aluminum.
Brand new tires less than 100 miles on them. I will also include a set of 4 very rare TWR aluminum wheels which I think would compliment this Jaguar nicely. (Though, even the Starfish Rims presently fitted look stunning).
This car is VERY close to being ready to burn up the road and I DON'T regret any of the time I have spent on it. I have enjoyed EVERY moment. Anyone who knows me is aware that I enjoy working on cars more than driving them. This will be one incredibly fast car when the final details are addressed.
This car looks like an Art piece. It has been a lovely prescence in my shop and would make a proper conversation piece in any garage.
