We are delighted to offer this super example of a Flat Rad Morgan Plus Four, one of fewer than 350 made.

Built in 1952, this exciting car has had but four owners from new, two of whom were from the same family giving it a rare provenance and like many earlier Morgans has period competition history.

The first owner was Gary Kane Sullivan of Bourne End who took delivery of the Morgan on 18th August 1952. Mr Kane was to retain the car until 1980 when it passed to its second owner, Paul Lathwell. Mr Lathwell, a stress engineer for British Aerospace, fastidiously maintained the Morgan and improved it by fitting a 2.2 litre Triumph TR engine, similar to that used in the top of the range Plus 4 SS model of the late 1950s and early 1960s (one of which achieved a class win at Le Mans in 1962), in place of the original Standard Vanguard unit. This endows the car with very spritely performance.

Resplendent in bright red, the paintwork is generally of a good standard with just a few age related marks and the delightfully patinated fawn interior is in very good order too. The cockpit is very comfortable and surprisingly roomy with everything close at hand and features a wonderfully evocative Bluemells ‘Brooklands' sprung steering wheel.

There is a full complement of weather equipment consisting of both short and full tonneau covers in fawn everflex and black double duck sidescreens, all in very good condition. There is also a black double duck hood which would benefit from some refurbishment.

The Morgan is an instant starter and on the road the TR engine gives the car plenty of urge while the traditional Morgan sliding pillar front suspension gives the car excellent handling and roadholding. The Moss gearbox has a lovely mechanical feel and is a joy to use – it is a genuinely exciting car to drive.
There is a large history file with the car containing lots of receipts for work done to the car by its engineer second owner as well as some more recent recommissioning by its last but one owner. Also present are V5s, old MoT Certificates and an owner's handbook.

Flat Rad Morgans do not come onto the market very often and this example has only become available because its Morgan enthusiast owner, to whom we sold the car, is upgrading to a Plus Eight making this a rare opportunity to acquire and enjoy one of Morgan's best all round models.
