1924 Bentley 3 litre Vanden Plas Matching numbers Speed Model.

Chassis number: 750

Registration number: XW 1604

Fitted with its original Vanden Plas 4-seater "Bathtub" body this 3 litre Bentley represents the archetypal vintage racing Bentley. Chassis number 750 was built for Sir B.C. Beauchamp of Deanery St, London W 1. All subsequent onwers are listed in the cars history file which also contains the original buff log book for the car. It left the Cricklewood works in September of 1924 destined for the neighboring Vanden Plas coachworks in Kingsbury NW 9.

Up until production ceased in 1929, some 1622 3 litre Bentleys were produced of which 513 were originally speed models. This example is a very correct matching numbers car with its original VDP all alloy body still in situ along with a fold flat screen plus aero screens. It really does represent a quintessential Vintage Bentley.

The current owner had a major engine rebuild undertaken by Marque specialists VBE Restorations. With the bill coming to almost £54,000 pounds it is sufficient to say it was full & comprehensive. A thick hitory file comes with the car detailing works done to it by many of the leading Bentley repairers. Elmdown Engineering, Neil Davies Historic Racing, D.H. Day, to name a few. Copies of the factory records show the car was being serviced by them up to 1939.

This car drives beautifully & has a very solid un messed around feel to it. The throttle pedal is centre mounted as the car left the factory. All original period instuments remain in their appointed places on the dash board. The interior is black leather with the hide being in fine order throughout.

History records the car as having done extensive tours abroad including a 3000 mile tour of the western USA where it endured extended running in 110 degree Arizona weather & also a tour of New Zealand. Under current ownership the car has been used regularly but sparingly on fine days only & is now being sold due to the advancing age of the current owner.
