The last Bentley to be built on a separate chassis. in 1962. saw
the introduction of the Bentley S 3 factory bodied standard steel
saloon and at first glance it would appear that the all new S 3 was
merely an S 2 with different headlamps. The introduction of the twin
headlamps was clearly the most obvious change but the differences
did not end there. Further changes included the introduction of
smaller bumper overriders and the repositioning of the front
indicators and side lamps into one single unit on the front wing
resulting in an arguably more attractive appearance. The S 3's
interior now had individual front seats in place of the split bench
seat found in the earlier S types some. like this one. had air
conditioning. electric windows and front seat belts. Mechanically
speaking the S 3 was the same as the S 2 with a 6230 cc Rolls-Royce V 8
engine and automatic gearbox but this model was fitted with larger
carburettors. improved power steering to aid smoother movement at
parking speed and a Lucas vacuum-advance distributor to aid fuel
consumption making it almost identical in mechanical specification
to the S 3 Continental that was being produced at the same time.
Presented in Light Arctic Blue over Shell Grey. this excellent
driving car has travelled just 1. 00 miles since its last service
in December. 2011. Three previous owners are recorded on the V 5
registration document before the vendor. owner for 11 years now. A
history file exists dating back to 1994 with much work carried out
by respected specialists. Sergeants of Goudhurst. Recent works
include a reconditioned gearbox in 2006. a refurbished heater
matrix in 2009. brake shoes. cylinders and hydraulic tappets in
2010 and latterly. in 2011. new sills installed. Complete with the
original green registration book. an Mo T test certificate valid
until September 2014 and expired certificates dating back to 1994. br/>this most elegant and advanced of the S-Types suffers slightly from
corrosion around the rear wheel arches but. on the whole. is in
sound condition throughout and. described by the vendor. an
excellent driving car.
