A very stylish car, one of just three built to this design (James Young B20SR), and very elegantly proportioned, with delightful, flowing lines, particularly at the rear, incorporating subtle fins on the rear wings, 'wrap-around' rear window, Cibie Headlights, as well as a pair of built in Lucas spotlights and another accessory pair. The car is all correct, tastefully finished in deep red, which we feel suits the car well. Exhibited when new at the Geneva Motor Show, and first registered in the UK early in 1958. Good mechanically, running nicely and driving well. The coachwork and cosmetics would benefit from some improvements, but the car is perfectly useable as it is, being offered serviced, fitted with new tyres and newly MoT tested. A two door S Type for dramatically less than a Continental equivalent, and in many ways no less desirable!

Snippets: The Bartons of Byworth & The Larmans of Langford

After having travelled to Geneva for the Motor Show B120EG was bought by a Miss F M Barton of Trofts, Byworth; she was a member of the auctioneering family of Dreweatt, Watson & Barton. The firm handled the sale of significant pieces of furniture from properties such as Bussock Wood House, Priors Court, Quarry Wood and in 1978 the firm auctioned off the contents of Trofts itself. Dreweaats telephone number was Newbury 1 (dating from 1899) and in 1974 it was the last number to be connected to the new automatic telephone system. In 1973 the car was advertised by Frank Dale & Stepsons at the price of £10,500 & it was purchased by Alfred Ronald Larman of Langford. He arranged for his personalised number of ARL 50 to be on the car as he was 50 when the car was registered in 1958! Alfred was the son of Alfred "Alf" Larman of Bleak Hall Farm, who in 1926 formed the family haulage concern which was mainly involved in transporting vegetables and food commodities including their own chickens, eggs, hay, straw and farm produce. It would appear from the Biggleswade archives that it was very much a family concern with Alfred Jr, his sister Gertrude and brother Frederick working alongside their father. A resident of Biggleswade can remember Alfred, or Ron as he was known, as having a large garage with several old cars in it - including a Bentley!

About usThe Real Car Company was established in 1987 by Ray Arnold & Ian Johnstone. It was a hobby that 'Got out of hand'. Our interest in cars of the type that we now sell goes back to our childhoods, and ownership back to the 1970's. Gradually more cars started passing through our hands, and by 1986 we had decided to make a full time occupation of buying and selling the cars that we love.

We started with a single car (all we could afford) which we sold quickly, and before we knew it we had 4 or 5 on our hands! This was alongside another business that we were involved in at the time. In the Spring of 1988 we gave up the other business, (exhaust systems), rented part of the premises that we still operate from now, and went full time.

We had a good start in the boom years of the late eighties, which set us up well enough for us to ride the storm of recession in the years that followed. As the years went on the number of cars going through our hands increased gradually, we built up a workforce, and now in 2009 we carry a stock of around 40 to 50 vehicles and there are ten of us here. In 1999 we were awarded 'International Classic Car Dealer of the Year' by Classic Cars Magazine. The market for 'our' kind of cars is nicely stable, generally prices are creeping upwards all the time, and we feel that investing in a car - or cars - of the type that we sell is generally a great place to put your money. Don't do it just for investment, but you can get a great deal of pleasure from these vehicles, prices are - in our opinion - unlikely to drop, and you can't drive a share certificate! Some prices in the last three or four years have moved up considerably, and these cases have shown a tremendous return on investment.

Over the last fifteen years or so we have brought home several hundred cars from the USA, and we are always looking for more. If you know of a Rolls-Royce or Bentley anywhere in the world, in absolutely any condition, please let us know. Distance no object, commissions happily paid. We always particularly enjoy the 'barn finds'.
