Porsche 356 A Speedster Replica
I have owned this ‘Ruby' since 2005 and I have not yet told the kids she is going! This is a classified add running for 28 days.
She is a genuine factory built kit car - with no hidden issues.
She will be available for viewing all weekends less 16/17 Nov and evenings after 8 pm in a well lit garage.
Key points:
Made in 1995 Only 18. 00 miles from new (29. 00 km)
Fiberglass body on a shortened VW beetle pan. undersealed.
1800 cc water-cooled VW Golf engine Front Disc Brakes. Rear beetle drums Great 20 year old patina (surface rust) – not immaculate but a real head turner.
Here is what she is:
Made by KCC in South Africa (Jo'burg) 1995 and first registered in SA.
KCC has technically gone into liquidation in 2000 – but Hans the owner has started another business making Porsche 356 replicas – all parts on his current inventory fit Ruby!
She is very similar to the Tegan. Chesil. and all the US variants of this very popular replica with beetle (T 1) and Golf (Mk 2) parts.
Unusually. she runs a Golf Mk 2. 8 valve normally aspirated 1800 cc water cooled block.
The radiator is in the front and has an additional automatic (with manual override) fan for when you are stuck in traffic.
The VW Beetle gearbox runs her at 70 mph 3000 rpm – she will go faster! This makes her slightly more refined ride than a standard air cooled VW engine on beetle running gear variants.
Immense fun and a real head turner! Badged as the original would have been except dials.
Cheap to insure – Adrian Flux £93 per year for me and my wife restricted to 3000 miles a year.
Priced to sell this winter at £16. 00. but I am also happy to keep hold of her until next spring. so please no offers without coming to visit her and no silly offers if a stern ‘no' will offend you.
Her is what she isn't:
She is not tax free.
When I imported her from Cyprus in 2005 and registered her here. I registered her on the strength of her engine number (1995 –so she runs on a P prefix number plate).
You may be able to get this changed since I have discovered that the floor plan was from a 68 bug.
I have genuinely/honestly not inquired or tried to do this.
Tax is £95.
She is not perfect.
She is 20 years old. although she has averaged only about 1000 miles a year).
The drivers seat is well worn and if I was keeping her I would have the two seats re-upholstered.
Her chrome wheels are plain rusty.
They need shot blasting and painting or re-chroming now she has recently been re-sprayed with a new hood they stand out (unless you wish to retain the patina. ) She is not 100% waterproof.
I do take her out in the rain – but do not plan to.
If it is raining hard I will put her in the garage for any moisture to evaporate after our outing.
Significant Recent Work:
I like to keep her in good order. if I cannot do it myself then Mark at the local garage knows her inside out.
Importantly:
I had a new stainless steel exhaust made for her in 2010 (£400) I had her re-sprayed in 2011 (Ouch can't find the invoice but she wasn't cheep)
I gave her a new mo-hair roof and drop in side screens in 2012. (£600) I have just changed the cam-belt at the last service.
Essentially if it has need doing I have done it.
She will be sold with a new 12 months' MOT (Dec 13)
Here is what she comes with:
Full set of keys. (engine cover. battery/luggage compartment. petrol cap and ignition) Jack and wheel brace (no spare tyre – I carry a can of in-tyre foam which I have never had to use!) Brand new (Oct 13) breathable winter cover from Cover Zone (Monsoon Model £150 last month) A box of spares - like: Spare clutch cable Spare accelerator cable New water pump (purchased in error) Spare cambelt Old but serviceable brake cylinders Off side rear wheel bearing New hydraulic brake hoses New #black flash HT Leads never fitted.
Spare points Spare original wing mirrors (chrome starting to degrade) Original Porsche Nipple hub caps x 4 (I have baby moons fitted currently)
Her History:
I have a full folder of her history. She was commissioned by Mr NIchting in 1995 and subsequently purchased from him by Mr Sauerbier (I have spoken with him) for his wife in SA.
She sold it to an Irishman James Hogan. who imported her to Cyprus (where I was working) – and where we first met.
I persuaded him (eventually) to part with Ruby and I imported her back to the UK when I finished my contract.
I made all the changes necessary to get her through an SVA test at Norwich and then registered here at Peterborough DVLA.
It was quite a tortuous task given that she had come from SA but had shown a Cypriot registration documentation – I still have all the records.
I have had Ruby for nearly 10 years and whilst the V 5 indicates a single owner she has actually had 2.
The V 5 shows her registered as a VW KCC Kit Car.
I will of course be sad to see her go – as will the kids and wife…but they all say that don't they.
There has to be some small print and this is it.
I know she is a lovely car. but I am not here to entertain tyre kickers.
Feel free to come and view her (in fact I actively encourage it if you are a genuine potential purchaser . ) I'd like to see the whites of your eyes before I shake your hand so please do not waste my time and yours if you do not have the funds or the intent to purchase a 356 Replica.
There is no buy it now button.
I have been as honest as I can please read the above carefully.
If you make an offer and it is accepted you do indeed commit to buy at the agreed price not come and haggle – not even a little bit.
Payment in full within 5 working days.
Cash only on collection .
£500 non-refundable deposit secures the deal and stops me from further advertising.
Ruby is advertised elsewhere so I reserve the right to remove this listing if she is sold before the end of the add.
