This model has started to rise in value significantly as people realise how rare they are becoming. It is a 1977 Daimler Sovereign Coupe. UK Right Hand Drive and finished in Brown with Tan Leather upholstery. This particular car has been in a museum for many years and is now in need of restoration. The previous owner bought the car 11 years ago with a rebuilt engine and a restored body. there is hostory going back to the late eighties and the car is showing as having covered 95. 00 Miles from new.
The main differences between the Jaguars and Daimlers were the distinctive Daimler fluted radiator grill and upgraded upholstery and interior trim. Introduced to universal praise in September 1968. the Jaguar was an instant success; demand for the new model was such that Jaguar initially had difficulty in keeping pace with it. to the extent that even motoring journalists experienced problems in getting hold of a car to test drive! In a contemporary road test report. a head-to-head comparison was done between the Jaguar XJ6 and the then current model of Rolls-Royce. The testers concluded that the 'Coventry Cat' was by far the superior vehicle as regards performance. handling and ride comfort. the latter often being subsequently referred to quite justifiably as a “magic carpet ride”.
This is a great basis for restoration as. although the car is rusty. everything is there and no-one has started dismantling it. We have not had the car running and it has no Tax or MOT but we think someone will have great pleasure is getting this rare coupe back on the road.
