VW (Dung) Beetle! Way cool - Patina everywhere!

1970 1. 5 local Canberra car been on car ramps for 26 years!

It's an Australian assembled Bug - I have been told it was a 1300 (drum brakes all round - safety in numbers?) but has been fitted with a 1500 engine. I don't know enough about Beetles to confirm or deny this but happy to discuss with a prospective buyer.

The second owner drove it onto the ramps to replace the exhaust  flange gaskets - 26 years ago - and there it sat. It sat so long a tree grew over the top of it offering some protection from the elements.

I have replaced the Brake linings (rear). wheel cylinders (all 4). brake hoses (all 4). Brake pipe (front to back) and had the master cylinder re-sleeved.

Fitted a new exhaust system (complete). ignition leads. plugs. oil. filters and rear tyres (will need the front tyres replaced too before driving). De-crudded the fuel tank. went through the carb. fuel pump and distributor.

It runs well. has good compression and (importantly) no end-float in the crankshaft.

There is still a bit to do. The floors have some rust need to be plated (see pics) - I wouldn't go so far as to replace the floors but that will be at your discretion.

The fuel line is plugged and will need to be cleaned or replaced. I have fitted a flexible line as stop-gap measure but you may wish to go down the original route.

The interior needs help (see the pics).

It is the first Beetle I have ever worked on and am impressed that everything is so easy (and logical) to work on. Basic tools and a little mechanical know-how is all you need. Every part is still available - many from the local auto supply shops but there are many specialist suppliers for that "hard to find part". It would be a great Father/son/daughter project.

It will drive onto your trailer but. as it has sat for 26 years. would need to be gone through thoroughly before embarking on that road trip to Nimbin.

Please call me for info if needed - I will delete SMS/Text messages.
