 love them or hate them you cannot deny the importance of the Jersey Looker in the world of VW buses or the Vanner World.

this here is a 1961 swivelseat panel that was most likely ordered (but unconfirmed) by the Jewel Tea Company of Barrington Illinois. JTC is reported to have owned nearly 100 panel vans at one time and is documented in the VW factory literature "Friend of the VW Transporter". as of now only 3 of these buses have been found. all Jewel Tea buses seem to have come with a handful of options that only they had: swivelseat. safaris. southwind gas heater and sliding rear window. the safaris are missing from this bus but the weld-in tabs are still there.

this bus was customized long ago. i'd guess in the 70s. it had it's wheelwells hacked. a window put in each side. the bulkhead hacked. MG seats added (swivel base is still on the drivers seat. it also has an extra 17 gallon gas tank which I have been using. I have not used the stock gas tank but there is a switch to go from one tank to the other. this bus holds nearly 30 gallons of gas. in addition to the spare tank it has had a custom interior added with shelves. a sleeping area and storage under the long wall bed. i'll get interior shots to interested persons. it could stand to be shag carpeted. I added a roofrack off a junkyard buick with looks sleek and stylish. I also hacked a larger sunroof in. I couldn't stop myself from taking the bus to the next level by hacking in taillights from a Ford Fairlane. I also spraybombed trim areas in gold. fender flares and added the front n rear bumbers. it has an "NOS" Brazilian flat decklid. the sliding rear window has mirror tint.

engine wise it has a stock 1600 dual port with a header and is cooled with genuine fiberglas "performance scoops".  the tires are 165x15 "ovals" up front and "G-60s" out back. the tires about 2 years old and have about 2000 miles on them. I have driven this bus back and forth between Eureka Springs Arkansas and Philly once as well as back and forth between Charlotte NC and Philly without any issues other than a coil wire falling off in Missouri. that's nearly 4000 miles in two trips. I drove it for 23 hours straight on the way back from AR after a big red headed mama woke me up at 4am for a booty call. YIKES! it has also been driven on the Trailbash and is a monster for off-roading.

the bus has some rust but nothing terrible. it's useable as is without having to do anything. if you hate rust go nuts. cut and weld away. I can't give a full description of every detail here in this ad but will gladly give an accurate walkaround description with anyone on the phone. the front floors are mostly solid. the drivers has one area that is starting to rust through. passenger side windshield is cracked down low. the bus could use inner and outer rockers. battery tray. six inches of cargo floor and some other minor stuff.
as anyone with any self respect should expect. the bus has plenty of bondo which is why it looks so awesome. I massaged out the paint with 3M perfect-it which is why it has that PC glow. it's still a bit dirty from it's romp with the Barbie jeep but would clean up fine. nbsp;
s to it.
the full length roof rack is not included in the sale. I was just too lazy to take it off for the photos but I don't want anyone acting like they didn't know that it will cost extra for the rack.
