A Restored California & Documented 1971 Volkswagen Westfalia CampMobile Bus
Past History: A U. S Captain named Michael Robert York from Oakland. alifornia was stationed in Frankfurt. ermany during the Vietnam War. During his time in Germany. the Captain ordered a new 71' Westfalia from "Otto Glockler Volkswagen" in February 1971. A couple of months later. the Bus was delivered on March 19. Michael stood another year & a half until he was deployed back home toward the end of summer. August 8. 972: The bus was transported thru Gradmann & Holler from Frankfurt. Germany to the Port of San Francisco. Calif.  
 It remain with Captain Michael York. the original owner up until 2011. 40 years to be exact. Lived most of it's life in San Francisco being garaged. The 2nd owner purchased it & brought it down to Southern California. Has been a California Bus since 1972 remaining the original Blue plate.
This story is documented with All the original dealer paperwork. Military Bill Of Sale & service records. From the Glockler Dealer brochures  to the original Order Forum. a lot of documentation. You won't find a more documented Bus with pass history as this one.  Please take a look over the next set of photos.

Before I start off describing the Bus. I want to mention to you that it looks a lot better in person. A lot of detail went into it when it was restored.  
It is & was a solid California 1971 Westfalia. Spent it's life since 1972 in the Golden State. Early CA DMV records since late 1972. Very solid from the drip rails to the bottom floor pans. I love cause all the floor pans & undercarriage is original with the factory undercoating. It was taken apart & disassemble when it was restored. All the glass / trimming / drivetrain / interior cabinets were taken out when painted. It was painted a 2 stage job that was brought down to bare metal. The color is GunMetal Grey with Grey vinyl interior. very modern looking & stands out from the rest at shows. The front windshield area is in beautiful shape including all the lines. As well as all the glass is correct.  
All new exterior rubber was installed from gaskets to the seals once it was painted. The Canvas was replaced along with the mechanism being restored. Even the kid's cot on top was restored. The interior cabinets remains original including all the wood & table. headliner & sink. to keep some original patina. The upholstery was recovered in grey vinyl interior over the original front seats. mini chair & bed. All the cushion & foam were replaced as well. Newer pillows & curtains were added to match the modern look. The interior was painted as well.
The drivetrain has been gone thru as well all the brakes/shocks. In late 2012. it received close to $2k in a major tune up. replacing all the shocks & replacing the front calipers & rotors. New tires less the 800 miles ago & battery were added at the same time. I do have all the records on the tune up & tires (see photo below).
Ready to be driven across country. just pack up & go. Just in time to travel for the holidays. You really must see it in person. Im a few minutes away from the Long Beach Airport & 30 minutes away from LAX.
