1940 Willys 1/2 Ton Pick-Up Truck | eBay

OVERVIEW:
This very rare. all steel. low mileage pick-up was the subject of a complete body-off restoration. It is part of a major vintage truck collection and since completion has been primarily on display with few miles driven.
The restoration kept the truck in mostly original configuration without any major modifications aside from color and pin striping selection. and upgraded leather upholstery.

The odometer shows 43. 65 original miles. It is a Model 440 and carries serial # 440-44321. It retains original date tags on the cowl sides.
These trucks ran on a 100” wheelbase. weighed in at 2. 07 lbs. . and were powered by an inline L-head 4-cylinder engine.

The present owner acquired the truck in unrestored condition and had an extensive. high quality restoration performed by professionals in their respective fields. The truck has only seen fair weather outings. It starts easily. runs smooth. and drives well.
This eye catching little pickup is very clean. tidy. and straight. It garners attention where ever it goes. and it shows very well.

DRIVETRAIN:
The original 134 ci. flathead 4-cyliner engine was professionally rebuilt and runs nice. The engine compartment is very clean. tidy. and nicely detailed. with all other components on and around the engine either new or rebuilt and appearing as original equipment.
The original radiator is in very nice condition. with no damage to the tanks or core.

The rebuilt standard 3 speed floor shift transmission shifts as it should.
Correct leather boots wrap original style ball and trunnion U-joints.
The banjo style rear axle received new bearings and seals.
There are no major leaks visible. with only the usual sweat drips. The gas tank drain plug shows a bit of weeping and should have some thread sealant applied.

CHASSIS:
The A-1 solid. pit-free frame and undercarriage were sandblasted and painted. with full restoration of all components. The chassis is very clean apart from a bit of dust. and all appears as original equipment. New hardware is evident throughout.
Front suspension leaf springs are new. with original rears still maintaining positive arch and holding the truck in a correct and proper looking stance.
New shocks all around.
The steering components were all restored or replaced as required.
The complete mechanical brake system was also fully restored.
Complete new exhaust system with OEM style muffler.

The tires are a matched set of USA made Cooper Super Roadmaster 6. 50-16 LT tube type bias ply blackwalls. in like new condition. They are mounted on a set of original wheels sporting correct. restored hubcaps. There is no spare.

BODY & PAINT:
This truck was quite rust free when the owner acquired it. and as such it is a very solid unit with no hidden surprises or weak areas.
The cab and all panels and sheet metal are A-1 straight. and there is no evidence anywhere of any collision or rust damage. or repair.
Running boards are very solid and straight.

Body and paintwork on this truck are excellent.
Hood underside and all door and body jambs received the same attention and paint finish as the body exterior.
Quality materials. primers. and paint were used in the refinishing. The finish is outstanding. smooth. and has a beautiful luster and good shine.
All pin striping on body and wheels is hand painted.
There are very few stone chips. one on the left running board. two on the right. and four along the edge of the right door. all small. and no others found.
New rubber bumpers. grommets. pads were used throughout.

The solid box bed was treated to a coating of gravel guard prior to paint.
The tailgate is very nice and straight also. as are the box sides and front panel.
Tailgate chains are sleeved.

The hood support and latch are in very good operating condition.
The cowl vent return spring could be shortened to pull the vent down tighter.
Original engine side firewall pad was recoated.
Door hinge pins are stainless steel. and hinge fasteners upgraded to Allen wrench heads.

ELECTRICAL:
The truck retains original 6-volt electricals. with a battery cut-off at the battery and has all new correct cloth covered wiring harnesses.
All electrical items are in working order.
Stock instrument cluster and speedometer are in beautiful condition.
Equipped with correct original tear drop head lamps.

After market turn signal switch with 4-way flasher.
Front turn signals mounted below bumper.
Dual tail lights function as stop/tail/turn lights.
All lenses are in good condition.
Original dual vacuum wipers.
The truck is not heater equipped.

INTERIOR:
The interior is nicely upgraded with a quality leather seat.
It includes all new padded door and cabin panels. headliner and windlacing. all done in a quality matching vinyl.
New black carpet and mats. pedal pads. rubber shifter boot. glove box. weather seals. glass sweepers and channels.
It is missing an interior firewall panel above the carpet.

The steering wheel has one hairline crack and only minor blemishes.
Floor shifter equipped with a custom brass knob.
The hand brake handle appears to be more modern.
Original door handles and window cranks are very nice.
All glass is new.

BRIGHTWORK:
All chrome and stainless brightwork on the truck was restored and is in very nice condition. This includes the grilles and headlamp doors. bumpers and guards. hood ornament and side trim. and the Willys scripts.
The stainless hood center molding has some minor waves.
Equipped with dual door mirrors. and a modern gas cap.
The right exterior door handle has a rub blemish.

It sports correct hubcaps in very nice condition. One of them has a scuff and a few nicks along its edge.

SUMMARY:
In short. this is a very nice restoration of a rare original truck. with only a few minor deviations from total originality. It is a very nice example of the ever popular '40 Willys. It is very straight. very clean. with well above average body and paint work. This little pickup is ready to cruise and show.
There are no hidden secrets or horrors with this truck.
