RHD 1931 Ford Model A Cabriolet for sale
Current customer rating:
Firstly my thanks to the MAFCGB in helping confirm the rarity of this 1932 UK registered and built RHD Ford Model A Cabriolet that has been tucked away for some years. and which fell out of sight in the UK during the 1960/70's. hence being unseen on British roads for some 45/50 years.
Being a 'Home Market' car. this Cabriolet was assembled in Manchester at Trafford Park. prior to the move to Dagenham. it has the correct British made body. differentiated by minor details on the scuttle such as domed rivets. The British body number 662 on the nearside floor frame is in sequence with other British made Cabriolets known to the Model A Ford Motor Club GB
Originally registered FK 5132. as a 14. 9 HP Cabriolet on the 1 st March 1932. the continuation log book from 1946 confirms the original registration detail. including being green in colour. by 1960 the wings had been painted black. and the log book notes that the engine was then 24 HP. The car was registered in Guernsey in the 1970's with a sale receipt to confirm this. and was purchased in 1991 from Bougourd Brothers. the Ford dealer in Guernsey and subsequently registered in Jersey by the new owner.
Within this time. and before being registered in Jersey in 1991. the Model A had undergone a professional restoration. possibly by the Ford dealership in Guernsey. who had it on display in their showroom. the Model A now being in Burgundy with Black Wings. with a beige Bedford cord interior. beige hood and hood bag. Originally built as a 14. 9 HP cabriolet. the buff logbook indicates that the original 14. 9 HP engine number AF 4487237 had been replaced a 24 HP engine pre 1960. this engine numbered A 4472548 was in the car when originally registered in Guernsey. and was subsequently replaced by a fully reconditioned 24 HP engine. number A 4210953. from Belchers. which has yet to be run in.
In addition to the new Belcher engine. a new clutch was fitted. together with a restored Zenith carburettor. rebuilt water pump. and during the course of the re-commissioning. I have replaced the hoses. put in a new thermostat and had the radiator professionally cleaned with any small leaks being repaired.
Overall the car is in an excellent mellow condition. it does not have the appearance of a newly restored car. and has a pleasant mellowed patina. There are no modern modifications. everything being as was when new. and now needs running in. the picture with the car covered in dust. is how it was found after 10 years storage.
I am happy to deliver the Model A to the South Coast. and ideally this weekend. being Beaulieu would be most suitable. With regards to payment. a £500 deposit by Paypal. the balance by Bank transfer or Bankers draft / Building Society cheque on delivery on delivery by arrangement
The car is sold as is with no warranties. and comes with the UK 1946 continuation log book. a certificate of origin from the Jersey registration authority. bills . invoices and correspondence from the 1970's and 1980's.
This is a rare car. and possibly the only original UK built and registered cabriolet to be seen on the market for some many years. I am happy to answer any questions by email.
Price is negotiable as I just bought an early Ford V 8. so I am open to reasonable offers.
Thank you for looking.
